So here’s what I think:

I believe that, in order to keep the server alive, updating it to the latest version is extremely important. If we stay in 1.13.2, it is extremely unlikely we will get many new players, if any at all, and eventually the current players will likely become less and less active. I have no plans on leaving LVS no matter if we update or not, but I think we can all agree that new players keep the server alive. LVS has still been fairly popular, but it still feels a lot quieter to me than it used to be when we were on the latest version.

Here’s what my opinion on updating is:

We should definitely update.

Obviously, we should proceed with caution as we update, making backups upon backups, etc, but we should definitely update. The villager problem, like Zed said, can be annoying if it happens, but that is only a mild annoyance I feel, as most players who have tons of villagers are likely planning on building a new breeder in 1.14 anyway (like I am). That problem is fixable.

The chunk glitch is definitely way more concerning to me, as LVS’s history lies in its builds, and I would absolutely hate it if any player, whether currently active or not, had their build written over. But it is my understanding that, with all the testing they did, Mojang was unable to replicate the bug. To me, this makes it seem like a very rare occurrence, if it happens at all. But even seeing how possibly devastating this bug might be, I still feel that we need to move forward. We should definitely try to fix it if it comes up, but with how large our world is, if it happens there is a better chance than not that it will happen in the wilderness, where it won’t really affect anyone.

Now, keep in mind I am no programmer, but would it be possible to keep a backup of the world before we update, and if someone finds that a chunk has rewritten over one of their builds, Zed could go to the backup world, and (using a program like Wolrd Edit) copy/paste the old chunk from the backup into the server? This might be a possible fix on the off chance it happens to someone’s build, if Zed thinks it would work. Again, I am no programmer.

As for a server reset, I am extremely opposed to that idea. That would not be a good idea. One of the things I love most about LVS is its history, and the builds it is filled with. This history shouldn’t stop us from moving forward, but a server reset is just giving up, and I feel it would be very disrespectful to all the players who spent hours on their builds.

Okay, I think I’ve pretty much said all I wanted to, but in short, I think we need to update, and try to deal with the problems that may occur with that. Even with its extremely dedicated player base (yours truly being one of them), I am not sure if LVS could last on 1.13.2 until 1.15 comes out, assuming that 1.15 doesn’t have any issues which, lets face it, it most likely will. Being on a latest version is important to keep drawing new players in. Already I’ve noticed LVS getting quieter, very slowly, but I don’t want to see the server I love grow empty. I think as long as we give Zed our support and patience, we can definitely survive updating, and all enjoy 1.14 together.

Sorry for this being such a long post, I feel that this is really important so I decided I would try to be as specific as possible with how I think.

Later y’all!
