[Zz] Zen Shops Reopening!

[Zz] Zen Shops Reopening!

As you may know, the shop plugin has been broken for some time now, leaving the shops in Zen unusable, albeit significantly more friendly to fps.

So in it's place, while waiting for the shop plugin update come 1.14.4, we the Zedkins have come up with a brand new, totally original idea that's not been done by any other server in the past!

Trust Shops!

Now, you may be wondering, 'What is a trust shop?', which is a perfectly reasonable question, considering we just now came up with the idea.

A trust shop allows Zedlings to buy items from other players using trust, via accessible chests that hold the owner's stock.
~

To make a trust shop, simply place a sign on a chest that clearly indicates what you wish to buy or sell.

Example:

Then place the items you wish to sell into the chest (in this case, Cobblestone), and, if claimed, make sure to allow Zedlings to access the chest. You can do this by standing inside the claim the chest is in, and using the command:
/containertrust group.zedling
or
/ct group.zedling
~

Should your shop be short changed or stolen from, have no fear!
Simply inform Zedwick or LadyBountiful of the discrepancy either through PMs on the forums or in game, and they can see where the goods have skedaddled and return them should foul play be the cause.
Allowing only Zedlings to access your shops should mean that these issues are rare, aside from accidental cases.

There are currently four shops open in Zen, marked by banners on the Zen Shop District Map - which is at the entrance of the Shop District:

~

If you wish to update a shop or stall you already own in Zen, feel free!
There are banners by the entrance to the shop district which you may use to advertise your open shop, or you may ask a Zedkin to do so for you, though you may have to temporarily give them build trust to your shop.

If you wish to make a new shop, simply ask a Zedkin!
There are plenty of spaces in our expansion of the shopping district behind the post office available for new shops.
~

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, or in game.
Hopefully we shall be back to our shop plugin goodness some point after we update to 1.14.4!

Obviously, the Shop Plugin has been reinstated and it works, very well. I was able to figure it out without too much assistance!

So are Trust Shops still a thing? Are there any still operating or have all active shops reverted to using the Shop Plugin? Those places where I have been able to afford to purchase items are using the Shop Plugin, and I've successfully sold items too at LousyMiner's Spoils of War.

A bit of a digression and intended purely as a discussion starter* but is there (any merit in) some sort of trading hierarchy? Obviously, bottom of the ladder is the purchaser, buying goods from those willing to sell. Then there's me, a barrow boy with a market stall, selling whatever I've got a surplus of at the time. There aren't too many active market stalls at present.

Above that, there's those that make the investment of time and materials to construct a building in which they can sell more than will fit into a market stall. Sadly, many of these have now been festooned with cobwebs due to lack of stock or update, which makes the Merchants Quarter at Zen quite a sad and lonely place.

Is there a level above that? Are the communal farms above shops or below market stalls? It could be argued both ways, because the communal farms effectively take these basic items out of the market place and make them almost valueless. And I think that's a good thing because then what can be sold requires investment of time and effort; there is a value add.

Finally, are concessions permissable? If somebody is building a shop, can they enter into an agreement with another player where the second player can have space in the build for a commission on sales in lieu of participarting in the build? So its an ongoing space rental agreement rather than any form of joint ownership?

* As I say, a discussion starter. If moderators feel that this is too much of a topic hijack, feel free to split this post out into a separate topic.

Regards
