Lag going on lately

Lately there has been some severe problems for us playing on the server. At times the lag on the server is really bad and unplayable. I'm not here to complain but I was just wondering what is going on with the server? I don't think was happening before.

I'm working on it.

At the moment the servers' resources are stretched thin because of the size, and age, of the world. There are things I can do to get us a little more out of it, but it can only go so far.

I plan on upgrading to a new dedicated server during July, but to do this (whilst avoiding downtime) our costs for that month will go up - so any help financially to get us through that month will be ver' much appreciated.

I've got something I can do which should rid us of our recent lag spikes, I plan on using the update to 1.6 as an opportunity to apply it (with a little downtime). 1.6 is expected to land on Monday.
