[Zz] The Nether Reset and Horse Highway 2.0 - What to do?

So, the nether will finaly be reset. Wow.

I am wondering what we will do with that. I think it is an awesome opportunity to create something in a shared space.

I dont know if something like the Nether Hub from LVS would be adequat or how we could adapt a similar concept to our needs and make a Horse Highway 2.0.

I'd love it to be very easy to use and structured in a way that makes it easy to find your region/ another persons region and also easy to connect a new region/house to it. Maybe even railways?

Another thing would be the idea of a shared community (animal) farm in a way where animals could be sold/breed or 'stored' to be easily transported on the highway.

Then there are other problems:
like all the portal connections that will be severed and wont connect to the right one ect
The shortcut in Waterfall will need to be rebuilt
Will there be another (public) wither farm like the one by shaw right now?

I'd love to hear what you think about it and maybe what ideas you have!

Sounds amazing!

Does this mean all nether quartz and glowstone will be restored too? I'm in desperate need for some when I start on my region.
Hopefully we can all work together to create something amazing!

Yes, the nether will be deleted and all new terrain will be generated with glowstone and quartz and all. ^_^

I have figured out how to make portals that are very close to each other, like 20 blocks apart close, always go to the correct portal in both directions. It just takes a little math. I would be happy to work on portal issues when they come up.

I had a nether transportation corridor to get me to all my builds, I dismantled the whole thing a couple days ago and will be rebuilding it better than before. (already have the materials sitting chests waiting) So personally, I see a huge potential to make some really neat stuff if we plan it right. I would love to be a part the new horse highway build, of course connecting myself to it. (Which I currently am not)

I will be on vacation, or holiday for you Brits ;) from Dec 11th to Dec 17th, but will be ready and raring to go when I get back.

My question for Zedwick...What time do you plan to reset the Nether on the 14th?

I've been saving up rails for this project since forever. Transporting villagers and pretty much everything but horses will be a lot easier if there's a rail.

i was playing in creative mode and came up with a 'station selection' system where one can push a button at the station they get on the minecart line at and the cart will bypass all other stations until the desired station is reached, then the cart stops there. Would work best if there were 2 rail lines, one for each direction.

I plan to build this my own personal transportation system and I am more than happy to share this with others that want to do the same. I have tested it out to 400 blocks long in the nether with no issues. My suggestion would be to only make buttons for the next 3 or 4 stations and then stop, and be able to select the next 3 or 4 stations. Otherwise we would have absolutely massive redstone structures to be able to select even 6 stations at a time.

That sounds very promising!
but for that we'd definitely need a good an logic structure, so the navigation would be easier.
I'd like to know how much space and recources it needs. EspecI ally for the space so we can dig/build the ways accordingly and add rails later.

Skipping stations could be very practical for transporting villagers. But the limitation for 3 or 4 would need another system with more sub-stations than I had in mind. Maybe using the names of lines rather than the tree like structure for station connections for orientation would be more practical.

I don't have a very well thought out system (yet) but I really think, that thorough, consequent and well done planning can only benefit this project and is the only way to end up with a logical and good infrastructure that people like to use.

For that reason it may be good to have a person or work group to be 'officially' in charge and coordinate all the work. Like organising the digging and making sure it all works, maybe mapping of it all, someone in charge of making sure the portals all work correctly, a central place to coordinate the connection to the system and the railway.
and make it 'official' so peopLe know whom to ask if they want to help or an connection. A bit like a nether council?
(Btw I do have to visit/see the next LVS Council meeting. I really wanna see how you guys organise it. Not like I don't havery a house there)

I mean, I do know that all the region posts make a nether hub like in LVS not that important and you don't really need it for much, but I'd just love to make some thing awesome out of all that new terrain and the nether is like one big shared region in my mind.
Plus, I really hate how all these personal roads and ways all over the nether are such chaos and how probably most of them aren't in use for ages now.

Maybe we could use some specill matrial to mare it as the official Nether Network (I like that name!), so everyone know that changes to it are not allowed if you didn't consult with the work group or people in charge of it.

I'm probably repeating myself, but I just want it to be a great community thing.

P.S.: maybe the shortcut to the end farm could fall in the jurisdiction of the Nether Network ? And for me, person ally , it is the first priority to be rebuild.

When I designed my creative mode model I used Stone Brick and lit it with torches, looks cooler down a long hallway to me.

I went 7 open blocks wide plus the walls, so 9 wide (not including the redstone paths). From one wall to the other I had:

wall
1 open space
1 rail
3 open spaces for horses to not interfere with the rails with half slabs to raise it up.
1 rail (opposite direction)
1 open space
wall

I had built it 4 high, then 2 stone brick steps upside down to make a dome like roof, and had a one or 2 block drop in the middle to prevent Ghasts from spawning.

Redstone materials wasn't that bad. Obviously a ton of RS, as many repeaters as needed to carry the signal over a desired distance, plus a few more repeaters and a few RS torches and buttons per station. I think other than the redstone it self, just because of the distance, the resources aren't that bad.

OK, went and looked, for each station:
10 torches
14 repeaters
2 detector rails
6 powered rails
6 buttons
and a bunch of redstone dust

that covers both directions of travel. Personally, for what it does, I don't think it's really that bad.

I could donate 9 stacks of redstone blocks, a couple double chests of stone, and probably anything else you would need if it's supplies you're worried about.
