Clarification

I thought it best to post here due to the perpetual state of not getting a response to questions asked in-game, although rather disconcerting I'm sure it's due to the fact that staff are busy.

When I placed my nether portal I found it was almost on top of another players rail track to spawn. After inquiring I found (from a trusted player) the player has not been on in months, also I tried to see if it were possible to get in contact via the website with the player, they do not seem to be registered. My question is would it be ok and to help reduce congestion at the nether hub to use this players rail track to get to spawn rather than build a tunnel of my own?

It goes without saying if and when I saw the player in-game I would also ask them if it was ok to use the track.... if no I would gladly build my own. Due to concerns about griefing (this being a vanilla server) and not wishing to giveaway my location I have not mentioned the name of the player concerned here but can furnish staff with the name in-game. I will also not use the players rail track until I get the ok from staff or the player. Thankies :D

If it were my tunnel I wouldn't have a problem so long as it is a neat connection.
However, if you just build a portal and jump through it chances are you're not going to make a new one, and certainly not in the right place. You'll probably end up in a pre-existing one, eg at the end of someones nether tunnel. There could be 1km between your overworld portal and theirs and they could end up in the same nether side portal.
I highly recommend you dig a tunnel in the nether to the exact nether coords of your portal. To get these divide overworld coords by 8. Y values are not too critical. If you don't do this, you may find that when you go through your portal you end up in the wrong place. If you build it exact then other people can't break it with badly placed portals.

Thanks for your reply Dax. I always link my portals in the right way dividing by 8 I wish others did so :D I do not know where the other players portal is. There would also be no visible connection I would just need to knock out two nether rack blocks and replace them and place the minecart on the rails and the same on the return journey you would never know I had been there.

I would say so long as your connecting to their tunnel does not impact their use of it at all, it should be fine. However, obviously it is still their tunnel and if they then return to say you cannot use it, you will need to dig your own tunnel.

So, if you are connecting to their rail you should ensure their journey is not affected in passing your connection to it; they should be able to continue on without interruption.

Thank you Zedwick that is all I needed to know :D I will not disrupt anything... all I will do is place a mine cart on a rail that is it. There are two missing tracks so I dismount and break my cart then place it again and carry on. As I said in my post I do this not out of laziness merely to avoid more congestion at the nether hub and will have no hesitation in asking the owner if it is okay when they return to the server.
