Hello!

This Saturday is Minecon Earth!
This year, we as players are being given the chance to vote on what mob we would like to see added to the game!

So let's talk about that! Vote on the poll and comment why you're choosing that mob!

Let's keep discussion civil, don't insult anyone for their reasoning and have a nice debate!

Here's a link to the video to do with all the mobs: https://twitter.com/Minecraft/status/931250644568236032

Here's a link to the videos detailing each mob:
A: https://twitter.com/Minecraft/status/930076496294760448
B: https://twitter.com/Minecraft/status/930435305500442624
C: https://twitter.com/Minecraft/status/930797685497622528
D: https://twitter.com/Minecraft/status/931160039649431554

Make sure to also tune into the livestream this Saturday to cast your vote for real!

Given Zedwork amazing democracy I'm sure the voter turnout will be great!

I find it insulting that you feel the need to remind us not to insult people. This community is mature and respectful, you inconsiderate nincompoop!

I voted for the inferno because I feel the overworld has enough danger, and the Nether could be harder.

Anyone who wants a swooping sky stingray doesn't really want to build anything. Imagine trying to finish a roof with those things coming at you... It 'attacks players who haven't used a bed in a while'... Who uses a bed on multiplayer?!

Ocean deep creature for me. Anglerfish are cool.
Yup. It can stay down in the darkness of the deep. I won't bother it, and it won't bother me.

The one that's basically a new blaze is boring to me. My second preference would be the little gremlin pup thing. It's cute.

P.S The livestream and vote will begin at 5pm GMT.

Hmm.. well A and B seems annoying. A seems unreasonably hard for a new player. Try getting across a lake and get sucked down by a flesh eating monster, when wearing nothing but a stone sword. Also, it's unclear whether these mobs would spawn in specific places, such as a guardians tempel. Or as Elias said, building a building or exploring a mountain top will be extremely dangerous with those flying mobs. I would have prefered the flying ones to be passive mobs, as a cow but with wings. Kill them and you get feathers and something else.

D seems fun as a event or special building within the nether that houses a special Blaze that drops rare loot, but that's not the case here. Apparently it's just a random spawning event where this will spawn along with a few blazes. Not that fun If you ask me.

So it's C for me. I find the concept of a camouflaged creature that consumes anything that touches it to be silly, but I do approve of it's possible enchantment powers. The ability to remove an enchantment is something that has been missing for me, maybe this will help.

I have also voted for C, for similar reasons to Forseth. I like the idea of getting a new mechanic that helps with enchanting and I think I will use it often.

However, I thought I'd add to the debate on the other mobs to perhaps engage a bit more thinking:

With regards to mob A, building a boat isn't that hard for a new player to easily navigate the oceans and lakes safely at speed. Jeb said that it will spawn within the deep oceans, which presently have very little going on in them so this might mean that we could get more content for the oceans, like coral reefs etc. so that's something to think about? Plus seeing drowning as a new method of death is interesting, no mob kills that way currently.

Moving on to mob B, I think it's important to highlight that we do not know how this mob spawns yet. I've seen people pointing out that the Ghast (presently the only flying hostile mob) actually needs a 4x4 flat area to spawn on in the nether. This may mean that mob B requires a ground to spawn on, therefore building a well-lit roof will not be too dangerous. With regards to the sleeping aspect, lying down in your bed and setting your spawn counts as "sleeping", which is much easier to do in multiplayer than skipping the night. This may force more experienced players, who may not have slept for over 1000 hours of playing, to change how they play. Shaking things up can keep a game fresh.

And finally mob D, I honestly don't have much to say about this mob. It doesn't seem to add any new mechanics, like mob C, and it doesn't flesh out the game by making an existing area more dangerous, like A and B. That being said, perhaps mini-boss versions of existing mobs would be a cool way to shake things up, perhaps if they did this for every mob that might sway some people over to the side of mob D?

That's just my thoughts! Let's keep the discussion going!

Yeah, I think A and B can be interesting, but it depends on how they act. B, the flying shark, could possibly only spawn on a surface other than air, making it's actions limited to said areas. Or can it spawn on air blocks? Then, it's not said whether this mob would follow the rest of the mob rules. Would it be able to spawn only at night? Would it be affected by sunlight?
Would it engage with other mobs?

Same thing would go for A. Can it interact with things outside it's spawning area? Does the mechanic of the mob allow it to leave the depths. Can it interact with objects within boats? Does it attack other mobs?

I would find it cool if A could interact with other mobs. Can you tame it? Use it as a mob grinder? Can B be tamed? Is there a possibility of flight within the overworld without using Elytras? Etc.

I find it hard to speak up for those two with the limited information we have. But what ideas do you think Mojang has for these mobs?

I’d hope B would only spawn at night, or atleast only attack at night. Would be cool to see them flying about during the day, like spiders which do not attack during the day, perhaps as a warning to get inside before nightfall.

A being a danger which forces players to gather materials for a boat before setting out to cross vast oceans would be good. A surprising number of players will slowly cross oceans under their own power rather than spend a bit of time gathering wood beforehand. Even better if, as Memery says, it encourages a little more love for the oceans from the developers. Gotta have some pretty corals, sea weed and fish to look at whilst you drown in the depths, right?

C would make a nice trash can, nice to have an alternative to lava in a hole.

D is probably the least interesting, but also the least problematic. It doesn’t hinder building, or unexpectedly kill you when exploring the ocean, nor arguably make the end game even easier. It just makes adventuring into hell a bit more hellish. So D would, I think, inarguably make the game better though maybe not all that different to as it is now.

You know you can unenchant tools by using a tool of the same material on crafting table?

Yes, thank you for telling me but that isn't what I meant.
Doing that doesn't disenchant the tool. It removes it. If you take two diamond swords in the crafting table, it combines them into one. If one of them is enchanted, the enchantments disappear. But you lose one of the swords. This is intended to use when a tool is damaged. It combines the durability of the two tools, and push them into one. If the durability exceeds the total possible, the excess is removed.
You can do the same with an Anvil, except there you keep the enchantments.

This mob, If Mojang keeps what they said, could possibly remove an enchantment from a tool, without removing the tool or the other enchantments. Think of it like this, You have a sword with Bane of arthropods 3, Unbreaking 3 and looting 3, you want the looting and the Unbreaking enchantments, but not the Bane of Arthropods. There is no way of removing the enchantment without destroying the tool as of right now, this mob could change that.
