Probably took me a little longer than I should have to put these replies down...
Anyway...
I have actually been told by Zedwick that he plans to do something, sometime, somehow regarding the current world border situation. After a few interesting conversations regarding Totems of Undying and the fact Zurvival has a few in circulation, he agreed that it was sad mansions are not a thing on LVS.
For the third time, and hopefully the final time, I wish to bring back a meeting from (some random month, I didn't bother to check), 2017, linked here;
https://zedwork.co.uk/wiki/Zedling_Council_Meeting_2017-06-17, where the issue of border expansion was called into play. Here is a brief rundown of how that meeting went, from my recollection.
It was generally stated that general border expansion is a no-go, due to disc space. Keep in mind border expansion will NOT JUST BE DONE ON LVS! Zurvival will have the same treatment, just like the end!
"No Border Mondays" was suggested, where the border would simply be removed entirely for a day. All players who were still in the area when the border was reinstated would be teleported back somewhere, where exactly was not specified. Again, the possibility of disc space was an issue, in addition to the fact land would not delete and you would need to go out further and further each time the border was removed.
The best idea by far was some sort of follow-up to Zed's end script. It was stated repeatedly that it was "more complicated" in various different ways, all of which only Zedwick could understand. Another point that was also raised is that people could camp the area, and watch an old mansion until the border was taken down. An easy alternative was to delete the land BEFORE opening the border, as opposed to AFTER the border closed. This would provide a fairer hunt.
A few other things were said (may have been the meeting prior to this one where this was a topic, actually), such as removing x amount of blocks from the INTERIOR of the border in an attempt to save disc space, but it was generally agreed raiding people of their homes was a horrible thing to ask for simply getting a few totems. There was also a suggestion of regenerating unexplored chunks in the current world, but this would create chunk cliffs and biome cliffs which were generally disliked as well, not including the fact a mansion might not even be able to spawn in the little amount of space it is given. Similarly to an eye of ender pointing to no stronghold, its ability to generate would be hindered by chunks that were previously explored adjacent to the ones it attempted to spawn in.
The end script follow-up seems the most logical, and I am sure 1.13's ongoing command changes will complicate things beyond belief. I would like to say that, from a personal perspective, we NEED some sort of fix to our "latest version" handicaps. When the official 1.13/1.14 (1.13 II?) snapshots come out, we can get a better grasp of what there is to work with, both player and administrator wise, and we should, for the time being, calm down on poking Zedwick too hard because he might just be poked to death, and then where would we be? Point being, Zedwick has stated he will do something, sometime, somehow; and it probably would be best to button down the specifics once there are viable specifics to button down.
Mind you, I agree this deserves all the discussion we can muster. The more suggestions the better.
