There is a new Minecraft update out, but we are not ready for it, DO NOT UPDATE when you log in. Click NO.

Edit: The following is the instructions for downgrading to 1.4.5 on Windows (thought it's kinda similar with a mac) - Zedwick

Download a clean Minecraft 1.4.5 Jar file: http://assets.minecraft.net/1_4_5/minecraft_server.jar
Type %appdata% into the start menu
    Open .minecraft folder
    Open the bin folder
rename the current Minecraft.jar file to Minecraft-1.4.6.jar
Paste in the Minecraft 1.4.5 jar file
    Done

I'm afraid this next update may be a little while, as Bukkit have made some big changes which will intentionally break many plugins we rely on. So each plugin will need to be updated to ensure it works, and from now on every new bukkit release will intentionally break these plugins. This change is arguably a good thing for server stability and security, bad news for our use of some unique plugins which are not under active development.

I'll need to do some extensive testing of all of our plugins to discover which will be broken, and see if they can be fixed or replaced. Any plugins which exclusively use the official Bukkit API should remain functioning; We just don't know for sure which ones those are.

I'll keep you posted, but for now you'll need to either not update or downgrade back to 1.4.5.

The best option is to downgrade. Updating the server can take weeks in some cases

i found a fairly easy way when i did it last time , if you have windows you can easily restore the old minecraft if you restore to say for example a week ago ,therefore the version of minecraft will go back a week therefore you still need to update again :D

What I do, is keep the old.jars in a folder named MC backups. I make a new backup every time I update. I can "easily" swap the files around if need be.
