We're back on the grid! (Zestyland SkyGrid)

Postby Zedwick » Thu Feb 24, 2022 12:15 am

Is that a swarm of bees? A crowd of players on the day of a Council Meeting?? No! It's Zedwork SkyGrid!

Whilst the zesties are hosting this years SkyGrid, it will be open to all Zedlings and Zesties alike! I've taken all the blocks in Zestyland and organised them neatly into a huge 3-dimensional grid. Will you be able to survive and thrive in this messed up world?

Zedwork SkyGrid launches on Friday the 4th of March, 2022. This server is for all Zedlings and Zesties, so you are all invited to the grand opening at 6PM GMT!

Image

Looking around you should be able to see most blocks you might need to get started, however getting to them can be a bit perilous. Be careful, and try not to fall!

You may find a few things you are not used to on this server (beyond the er, unusual landscape). mobGriefing, doFireTick and PVP are enabled. ZestyLand is still in the spirit of the other survival servers; where you are expected to play civilly among one another. I will be severely disappointed if I find I cannot trust our Zesties to behave.

The world will be temporary. Please do not get too attached, and take lots of screenshots of all that you accomplish. I'd love to see and read all about the adventures you have on the ZestyLand SkyGrid.

Have you played SkyGrid before? Do you have any tips for success? Please, share your wisdom below!

SkyGrid lands on ZestyLand from Friday the 4th March with the grand opening starting at 6PM GMT, lasting through 'till the 4th April 2022.
The ZestyLand server will be accessed at: latest.zedwork.co.uk:25566 Add it to your in-game server list now so you don't miss out!
You must have reached Zedling (played for 15+ hours) or be a Zesty Subscriber to play SkyGrid on Zestyland

A big thank you to all of our Zesty Subscribers, who have made this SkyGrid possible.

Very exciting stuff, looking forward to what amazing creations and mayhem will happen this time!

Here's some questions that were asked and answered during the meeting!

How will player spawning work?

Players will spawn in random locations relatively far, but not too far from each other, so you can get set up on your own, but hopefully meet up with time.

How will the SkyGrid server be accessible?

There will be a warp in the lobby, and via the server ip: latest.zedwork.co.uk:25566

Do players start with anything in their inventory?

Nothing by default, but there is a planned optional goody bag with some blocks in it to help getting to some nearby resources.

Do you respawn at the same location as you first spawned in?

It's randomised every time you die, unless you have a bed.

Will the nether work?

The nether will work, as will the End. There's even a dragon fight on the End grid. There's one end portal located at 0, 0, 0 in the overworld! The end has an "island" circular grid, which spawns end gateways after the boss fight to get to the outer end grid. Elytras spawn in an item frame on the side of shulker spawners in the outer end grid.

Will the new height limits be used?

The grid will probably not expand any higher, as it's quite resource heavy for clients, but the height limits are increased just like in vanilla 1.18.

There's just over an hour until the grand opening of Zestyland SkyGrid, so here's a quick run down of some of the things you can expect to see out on the grid.

Loot chests

Pre-filled loot chests may, rarely, appear in the grid. They can be difficult to spot amongst all of the log blocks out there, but are well worth finding; these chests can contain loot normally found in structures throughout the world.

Spawners

You can find mob and animal spawners all over the grid. These are not your ordinary spawner you might find in the usual worlds; it's not just skeleton and zombies. There are 61 different kinds of mob spawners out on the grid, from celots and sheep to ravagers and elder guardians. Can you think of any unique farms you could create?

Image

The Nether

The overworld grid is tough enough, but if you make yourself a portal you'll also find The Nether has been transformed into a 3-dimensional grid of blocks too!

This place is pretty tricky, with lava and burny blocks everywhere. Definitely be sure to steer clear of the blaze, ghast, piglin ... well any of them really. spawners in the nether are bad news!

The End

Sure you've beaten the dragon, but have you beaten it whilst perched precariously upon a single block over the void??

The End features a circular "island" grid of endstone which an ender dragon calls home. If you can defeat it, you will open an end gateway around the perimeter of the island which leads to the outer end grid. Here you can find all of the usual end blocks, including spawners for everyone's favourite mob; the phantom!

Elytras can be found in an item frame on the side of shulker spawners. A tricky bit of loot to grab, but well worth it!

Tips

- Falling into the void happens to the best of us; don't fret, getting started in the grid is tricky business!
- You'll need some blocks to start building a bridges and platforms; look out for log blocks, which can easily be made into 4 planks.
- A bed is essential. Look out for wool and log blocks.
- Building next to lava or water will cause it to start flowing out in all directions.
- Some animals and mobs will refuse to spawn from spawners unless certain conditions are met. For example; fish like to be in water, and ghasts need a large enough area to spawn in.

Changelog
  • Fixed issue where players would be teleported in various circumstances; exiting boats, exiting beds, jumping on farmland, exiting nether portals, etc.
  • Axolotl, goat and glow squid spawners will no longer generate in the nether, now available in the overworld. Existing spawners remain unchanged.

Changelog
  • Slime spawners no longer generate on the grid; unfortunately Minecraft will not spawn slimes from them unless in an area slimes normally spawn anyway. Existing slime spawners are unaffected, and will only (sometimes) work if below y40.
  • Added Spore Blossoms to the overworld grid

We'll be gathering at 6PM GMT on Saturday to fight the dragon!

Please get yourselves kitted out ahead of time so we can get started as close to 6PM as possible.
