Lag, 1.7 and a nether reset.

Mojang have introduced a fix with 1.6.4 to solve the problem of structures losing their zoning (not spawning nether skellies in nether fortresses etc.) in the update to 1.7, with the new generator. This fix has caused a massive increase in the time it takes to save the world, which you have probably noticed in-game as a periodic freeze sometimes resulting in you losing connection (depending on how long it takes, anywhere from 1-20 seconds).

This is kinda not acceptable, and there is no fix in sight.

The solution to the lag is to turn off structure generation, and thus saving of structures, in the worlds. This would completely fix structure saving, but may result in a loss of structure zoning come 1.7.

So, we could:

- Turn structures off and then be left with non-functioning nether fortresses in parts of the nether.

- Turn structures off, and come 1.7 wipe the nether clean and start with a fresh nether. Everything in the nether would be lost, more quartz available.

- leave structures on and just deal with it. It's not too big of a deal, right?

- leave structures on, but reduce the frequency of world saves. This increases the opportunity for a server crash to lose your work (though that rarely happens anymore), but this would also potentially increase the time it takes to save the world and thus create larger spikes, but less frequently.

- I could try turning up the frequency to every minute, might keep the save times lower (but might just make it laggy all the time)

These are out options, I'm just throwing it out there whilst I consider them to give you a chance to put forth your thoughts on this. I don't like to wipe the nether, and I know some of you have spent a lot of time customizing some of the fortresses. Those customized fortresses would be lost/ruined with both a wipe, and a loss of zoning. I don't think a loss of zoning will matter as much in the overworld, but still not ideal :/

It would be hard, but I think just wiping the nether would be the best option but I cant talk for the people that have worked hard on their nethers. I could neither live with the lag or a server crash, this isn't like the last time some of us wanted a nether reset, this time it is more of an obligation, something needs to be done.

I have nothing invested in the nether so I would also vote for the reset.

I vote a nether swipe if it means that we have structures at all.

kinda confused about what turning off structures does (only thing that comes to mind is completely disabling the generation of nether fortresses and the like), but as long as we still have the ability to get wither skulls, I'm all in favor of the nether reset.
