The update to 1.7

The update to 1.7

Postby Zedwick » Thu Oct 24, 2013 11:51 am

Minecraft 1.7 should be landing tomorrow. Exciting right? It's a pretty big update. So big, in fact, that it's going to take a while for everything to be updated to work with it. So you can expect us to remain on 1.6.4, taking longer to update than last time.

So, this is a heads up to remind you that you'll need to ensure your launcher does not update to 1.7.1, and remains on 1.6.4 to be able to continue playing on Zedwork.

What's everyone looking forward to in 1.7?

Can't wait to see all the new biomes, and stained glass, and more FISHING.

Zed, when you get the chance it would be great if you could clarify how the update will affect the existing (i.e. explored) Zedwork map? Reading elsewhere on this forum, the assumption seems to be that: post 1.7 update, unloaded chunks will generate with the full features of 1.7; but chunks that have been loaded pre-update will not. Is that right?

thanks

Yes, that's right. Any unexplored land in the world will generate with all the new features of 1.7. Land which has already been explored/generated will mostly only have pre 1.7 features. Some things will be available everywhere, fishing for example would yield all types of fish no matter where you are in the world.

I am planning on wiping the nether, but I may not wipe it in the update to 1.7. I need to ensure that everyone is aware of the nether wipe, as not all read the forums. An in-game warning will come up indicating the date of the wipe, when I have sorted that out (and decided on a date)

The world generator changes in 1.7 change the location of generated strctures in the world, for most it does not really matter; I believe witch huts are the only ones in the normal world to be affected. A new saving system had been added in 1.6.3 to solve this problem by saving the location of existing structures, so they can continue to function in 1.7 and beyond. This new saving method took considerably longer to save than it did pre-1.6.3, and so I had to turn this off. I will be turning it back on soon, which will allow structures to be saved. If there are any structures you wish to be saved, you will need to visit it (load the chunks) before we update to 1.7. If the structure is not loaded in this time, it will not make the transition to 1.7 and will cease to spawn witches, etc. I'll post here again when I turn it on. You can expect lag during world saves whilst this is turned on.

It doesn't seem like there is much land that hasn't been explored already. Are us adventurous types going to have to head far out of our way to seek out new terrain, or are there pockets of the known world that can still be filled?

Last time I managed to render a map out, there were many tiny pockets of unexplored chunks in the ocean. Going to be entertaining as people happen across them, generating sudden land jutting out of the ocean as sheer cliffs, only a few chunks wide. in general, it depends which way you go. People have explored very far out, but in a straight line. Plenty of unexplored territory inbetween, if you choose a different course.

Oops my launcher just kind of updated itself and I can't get online. Is there an estimate time to when the server will be updated or should I just download that nostalgia programme if i want to play this weekend?

So, as we're still waiting… I'd like to invite you all to play 1.7.2 on Zedwork's new 'Latest Version Server'. It's PURE vanilla, and has been seeing a fair amont of traffic since 1.7.2 released.

I have no E.T.A on Bukkit and Zedwork updating, so hopefully this will satisfy yor curiosity for the new update ^_^
