[LVS] [Zz] Server down? :O

We're down for a bout of very sudden maintenance. Both servers' worlds are fine, but to keep them fine I had to take the server down. We have been runing low on disk space, and tonight we had a sudden spike in disk usage which I was no prepared for, and we ran out. I'd been preparing to do this maintenance this week to resolve our space problems, but I've been forced to do it tonight :P

Hopefully LVS will be back online tomorrow, unsure on Zurvival. I'll update you tomorrow.

I believe I have the space issues resolved, for now. Zurvival's world size has been increasing at an alarming rate (more than 2GB/month since july), such growth just is not sustainable. Originally we had plenty of space, but since moving to SSDs for increased performance, we have a finite amount of storage space. I have some ideas on how to manage this going forward, and will make a post about this soon.

LVS is currently up and fine, but there may be a few corrupted chunks. We've already found one, which faded_shot dutifully explored. If you find any other, please note the coords and let a Guardian know about it. I will need to take the world offline at some point in order to fix any corrupted chunks. I am not expecting many of these to surface.

Zz (Zurvival) is still offline whilst I finalise a few things. When it comes back up, if all goes to plan, it will be running 1.7. Hurray! Please let me know if you find any issues after the update, many plugins may be broken. Please especially test out the protection on claims with a friend, to ensure it is working properly. (Only test it with the claim owner's permission, of course) Report any issues you find to a Guardian, or use /helpme if none are available.

Alrighty! Systems functioning normally.

[LVS] suffered an end of the world event, and a chicken apocolalypse! Chunk holes started opening up in a localised region, followed shortly after by the sudden spawning of 10,000 chickens (and I still have absolutely no idea why…). Took the server offline, and repaired the holes. The affected areas were small, but it lagged the entire server at the time. Everything seems to be running fine, and my scans fond no other chunk issues.

[Zz] is up and running 1.7, hurrah! Most of the core plugins have been updated for 1.7, or are functioning through through the update. The only one I am unsure on is our shop plugin, will need to test that. The way I handle backups for [Zz] has also changed. I used to store a local backup of the world on the same disk, but having now run out of room to do so have removed that local backup. I now backup straight to our offsite backup during server restarts. The difference you will notice is server retarts taking a little longer than they used to, I'm not sure how long yet until we go through a few. Expecting no more than 15 minutes, hopefully much less :)

Also, both servers now share the same lobby server. Be sure to say hi to each other during the nightly server restart ;)

Shop systems still seem to function, although i have not tried to make a new one. Also, are we still going to have a nether reset?

the nether reset will come a little later, I want to give players who were absent due to the 1.7 update a chance to a fair warning before the reset.
