This morning (UK time) we suffered an attack on Zedwork's infrastructure. A Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS) had been directed at Zedwork by a player, or group of players who had joined LVS.
The attack began shortly before 7:17AM, and all traffic was vacuumed up by our DDoS protection, all attack packets mitigated with only legitimate player data getting through to the server.
The attack ended at 7:29AM, without success.
The players who began the attack were quite eager to enjoy the server grinding to a hault, and seemed a little excited to hear a few players speak of lag (it can take up to 2 minutes after an attack has been identified before our DDoS mitigation fully kicks in), but soon there were no more problems and they had to log out in failure
DDoS attacks can also be quite expensive, which would be why the attack only lasted 12 minutes. I enjoy the idea that it cost them money to commit their failure.
