Recently I have been thinking of making an iron golem farm at my new base, but when I was talking To Futurady about it he wasn't sure whether it was allowed or not because it abuses game mechanics.
Are Iron Golem farms allowed?

They are not allowed. They create an incredible amount of server resource commitment due to the nature of them. Although they may not be outright, "banned" they are certainly more than frowned upon, and I know our previous precedence was to say no to such thing. Of course a guardian is welcome to chime in, but from what I can see they are a "cheat" to getting iron. not on the same level as say an XP grinder as the mob numbers are limited and you don't need the additional spawning requirements that an iron golem farm needs.... other thoughts?

need iron? Go mining :P

Due to Iron being a currency, Iron farms which spawn infinite amounts of iron are too overpowered. I have disabled all Iron drops from Iron Golems.

We are moving away from iron as a currency, once we have switched entirely to Emeralds it is likely I will re-enable Iron Golem dropping iron and may be able to operate an Iron farm.

Personally, I disagree with Iron farms; though technically they are no different from other mob farms and therefore should be treated as such (providing iron is not to be used as a currency). Although, as Hyl says they are much more resource intensive and so may be outlawed/disabled in future if they become a problem. A kindness would be to build them far away from your usual areas of play (to avoid loading them into the server's memory when unnecessary) and not operating them when AFK.
