Keep your hunger bar filled, pick up good food along the way, and take things slow. Rushing headfirst into mobs will only do more damage to you, when you can snipe them or use a sword sweep attack more effectively.
Also, if you somehow get a hold of a shield, use it. I happened to be hunter in the solo run, but bought a shield from a shop.
I also saved all my experience for a power 4 bow in the evoker room, as well as a knockback 2 diamond sword.
The horseman room is fairly simple, stay to the center stairs and snipe the horsemen.
At ripper, minimize your fall damage by staying to the stone. Bolt for a grenade when you need it, but not for two at once. Deploy them right behind you when you bolt to the other side of the stone when ripper is behind you. When ripper is in its second more vulnerable stage, just pepper it with arrows. Melee will not work very well against it.
Oh, and always keep a totem in your off hand if you have one.
