I am currently planning to wait for a 1.13.2 update.

My approach is to create a list of natural blocks, rather than a list of blocks I expect player's to have placed, so any unusual or non-natural block like redstone dust (excluding the structures they naturally generate in, which I think may just be jungle temples) will not be on my list of natural blocks and will be counted as a player-placed block.

oh my bad. miss understood, sounds great! keep up the good work!

I heard a rumor that we now have to wait until 1.13.2 to update us to 1.13. Is this by any chance true?

There has been no official announcement about a theorised upcoming 1.13.2. We don't normally get anything before Mojang release a snapshot/pre-release for an upcoming version, which has not yet happened. The issue does currently have someone at Mojang assigned to work on it, so I still expect an update to come.

According to Dinnerbone, as of September 13th, Mojang has not planned a 1.13.2 update to come. (See https://twitter.com/Dinnerbone/status/1 ... 7213946880). This does not mean there will never be a 1.13.2 necessarily, but they at-least have no current schedule for releasing 1.13.2 nor which bugs/features might make it into such an update. My assumption is that they are currently preparing for their 1.14 reveal with Minecon Earth at the end of this month, and so they won't be working on 1.13.x until at-least early next month if not later. However, it is also entirely possible that they will not release an update to resolve the existing world upgrade bug(s) for 1.13.x. I doubt Mojang plan to abandon 1.13, and have just had to delay releasing any further fixes for the moment. Given we have no way to know how long we'd have to wait for those fixes to come, or if they ever will, I think it is probably best to start preparing to update with the assumption that no further fixes are on the way and must expect data loss when upgrading from 1.12.2 to 1.13.1+. However, I do not think we should simply accept losing your hard earned progress on Zedwork.

I have begun working on a script which will hopefully patch any holes in the world left by Mojang's world upgrade. The only remaining issue appears to be some double chests spanning the border between chunks are wiped of their contents. (see https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-134115) My plan is to record the contents of every chest across the world in 1.12.2 before upgrading to 1.13.1, then compare the chest contents across the world after upgrade in 1.13.1 to find any chests which have been wiped. The script can then attempt to restore the contents of the chest by converting the chest's contents from 1.12.2 to 1.13 format, and inserting it into the block's data in the world file.

I am still early into working on this project, but have my existing work on reading 1.13 worlds for the ocean regeneration script to refer to and have the beginnings of some code to read 1.12.2 worlds. I am quite confident I can make something to repair data loss, and get us moving on to 1.13.1 and beyond. However, if you would like to be super safe I recommend you move chests with any valuables in them away from chunk borders.

Minecraft 1.13+ is definitely seeming to be the most time-consuming update for me, as I need to:
  • update/rewrite the majority of our plugins on Zz
  • completely rewrite all of the command systems used to run LVS
  • write in compatibility support for changes to commands, player data and world data in our python scripts which power the !commands and various other features on Zz/LVS
  • write a script to regenerate oceans in order to get the new content across our world
  • and now also write a script to restore data lost during the world upgrade process.
I'll also later on be updating our ZestyGames for 1.13+ compatibility.

If you appreciate the hard work that goes into Zedwork every day, and especially this extra work-load during update periods, please consider becoming a Zesty Subscriber or increasing your subscription amount if you are able. Nothing motivates me more than seeing how much you value Zedwork ^_^ If you can't offer any money, kind words help too!

Just to complicate things... how are chests on llamas and donkeys treated? Will they be something that is correctly read?

That is something I had not considered! I will definitely be sure to account for those. Any chunks with pets, or unnaturally equipped mobs, would be marked as non-natural and ignored for deletion. This may be a temporary state, as if those mobs are later moved out of the chunk it could be cleared for deletion at a later date (so long as it does not match any other rules for being a non-natural chunk).

Following from the overwhelming support for an upgrade here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2986

Let us not waste any more time;

LVS will upgrade to 1.13.1 tomorrow, Tuesday the 16th of October.

As before, the upgrade process will take many hours. I will take LVS offline at some point during the morning, hopefully have it back online in the evening. Please be patient, and feel free to enjoy the lobby in fancy 1.13.1 whilst you wait.^_^

It is time for Zurvival to join the splishy splashy fun!

Coincidentally exactly one month following LVS' courageous leap into 1.13.1, Zurvival will be updating to 1.13.2 on November the 16th (tomorrow). There are a few caveats in the form of plugins going (temporarily, hopefully) missing which I'll list below. Zurvival will go down at some point during the morning, and will take many hours to upgrade. The world file is larger than LVS, but 1.13.2 brought some performance improvements to the upgrade progress so we may yet be pleasantly surprised by it taking a bit less time than LVS took (which took around a dozen hours).

  • In the upgrade we will lose the shop plugin, as its developer is currently unable to commit development time due to real life commitments.
  • Zesty Subscribers will lose their fancy FastCraft interface temporarily, until an update is available.
  • BookLibrary, which provides the readable books in items frames and rule books for new players, will be removed pending an update. I've updated BookLibrary.
  • MentionBeep, which beeps at you whenever your name is mentioned in chat, is currently untested and will be removed; but we will definitely be able to bring that back soon!
