Opinions or suggestions for my build?

Opinions or suggestions for my build?

Postby Seth » Sun Nov 20, 2016 2:07 am

Hey guys!
I feel like this house turned out pretty nice, so I felt the need to share it with you all. However, I figure it probably has a few things that could make it better, so if any of you have an opinion or suggestion just let me know. I'll be glad to hear your input!

A view of the front, a small and quaint lake house.
Spoiler:

A sun room/living room.
Spoiler:

A kitchen and dining room combo, maybe the island is a bit too far from the counters...?
Spoiler:

The master bedroom, with a map of the area, a bear skin rug, and my dog.
Spoiler:

Thanks for viewing!

Looking pretty amazing Aperture, I will be sure to drop by and have a look. Maybe you should come and visit Blutopia and see if you'd like to build something there :D

Do you have a connection to the nether yet too? I would be happy to set one up for you when we are next online together!

Keep up and good work!

Isn't Blutopia closing off soon? I would love to build there though, just afraid transport will be hard once it's not as easy to get to. Also yes, I have a connection to spawn and the border! :)

I think it looks good Seth.

I really like your furnishing. It stands out and is something I struggle with

I would however, like to see more details in the walls and roof. This could easily be done by building the logs one block further out and building a different colored frame on the roof border. If you prefer not to make the build bigger, you could get this effect by changing some of the wood planks into wood stairs, making the house look less perfect and more weathered.
Same thing could be made with the roof, changing some of the stairs for slaps (or solid blocks) would make it look a bit weathered.

Also, to make the build stand out even more, you could add vegetation around the build. Cutting some of the leaves from the trees and planting them down as bushes goes a long way. Finding some flowers to make a flower garden is very effective as well. A small bridge by the pond or a path down the sand and other small things like that makes it even better.

I hope you find inspiration in this and continue expanding your potential.

(If you are looking for more inspiration, I suggest watching some other players builds and also watch some youtube videos. Ill link one of my favourites down bellow, but his style is rather harsh. (Skip to about 40 seconds in because the first part is annoying))

It's very cute.

I agree with Forseth, the exterior is a bit smooth. But, i don't mind the roof being all one color. You could try popping some dormers out to give the roof a little more interest.

You could pull the seating in the sunroom off the wall some and face it more toward the window. That would give the entry area more definition. There might also be enough room there for separate seating for a small living room.

in the kitchen I like that you have the fume hood thing. that's cool. Why not more upper cabinets and shelves? The space between island and counter is fine, but I think the island would work better with either the pillar block or upside down stairs.

Thanks for all these suggestions, I'll start working on them as soon as possible! :)

As for this, I couldn't really find a way to make them look right to me. I'm not exactly sure how to go about it.

I like it, You could add like a little dock area where you can walk over the water.
