Bridge Wars is the most popular mini game played across the Zedwork servers. It is an edited version of "Missile Wars” that Zedwick himself developed. It is a team game that takes place on two walls of glass each protecting two large nether portals. Each team must use spawn eggs to bridge the gap between the walls of glass and destroy the opponent’s nether portals. Each spawn egg can be placed to create missiles that can be ridden or place together to create a bridge to the other team’s base. The game involves many techniques and tactics and can be overwhelming for new players. Listed below are sets of tactics ranging from ‘basic’ to ‘advanced’ to help develop your Bridge Wars skills.

Joining Teams and Starting the game

When you first join a Bridge Wars lobby you will have to join a team. To join a team, simply run through the gate labelled ‘Join Red’ or ‘Join Green’. It’s a good idea to press the ‘tab’ key before joining so that if the teams are uneven you can balance them out again. Once through the gate you will reach a smaller pre-game lobby area. You will be face with two signs: ‘Return to lobby’ and ‘Click when your team is ready’. When both teams have click the ‘ready’ sign the game will begin.

Receiving Items and Using Items

Once the game has begun you will be given a bow called ‘Gunblade’ and the leather armour of your team’s colour. You will also receive your first item. An item is given to every player in the game every 11 seconds. The item is chosen randomly from every item in the game. If you already have the item it will not give you a second one. Winning the game: This is a very simple objective with a vast array of ways to achieving it. Each team is battling to break the other team’s nether portals. The problem is the large wall of glass that is 15 blocks thick protecting the portals and a vast gap in between the two walls. The simplest ways to do this are bridging across the gap between the walls and placing a bridge in the opponent’s portal that breaks the connection, or you can blow up the opponent’s wall using the juggernaut missile. Though it may seem like a simple idea the variation is achieving this goal is why this forums page is XXX words.

Building straight bridges

As previously mentioned your team needs to bridge the gap between the bases so you can reach the opponents wall and break the nether portal. Straight bridges are a simple way of doing this. All you need to do is stay on your wall and send out missiles across the void to the opponent’s wall. Then simply repeat this process and slowly the bridges will pile up and form a complete bridge from one side to the other. Then simply run across the bridge and break their portal.

Building downward bridges

This method is very similar to the straight bridge method but it has a slight advantage; the problem with straight bridges is they can be used by both teams: A downward bridge though can only be used one way. To create a downward bridge means you need a team mate or 2 bridges in your inventory. Simple place one on top of the other by placing them at roughly the same time and they will stop moving. This create a platform 4 blocks down and allows you to repeat the process. The only downside to this is you can go too low to affect the opponent’s wall but we can get into more detailed techniques later on.

Team work is best work

This is the most important part of basic Bridgewars. Work together! Take a buddy with you and you can do twice as well as on your own. If you get attacked you can fight them off together and it means you have the power of two people’s bridges! The more people on the team, the more the team needs to work together! Power of teamwork is best work.

Gameplay: Intermediate

Now we are kicking things up a gear, here are some intermediate tips and tricks which will improve your game and make you a more formidable foe!

Destroying Bridges

One of the worst things in bridge wars is when your opponent has a completed bridge to your base. If you don’t do something quickly the other team will soon overrun you. Thankfully destroying bridges is simple. Just place a juggernaut or two or seven above their bridge or around their bridge and blow the sucker up. If the Juggernaught doesn’t activate, place another bridge on top of it and that should set it off 9 times out of 10.

Riding missiles safely

When playing Bridgewars you will see most players riding the missiles. Now we can get into how it’s done. Every missile can be ridden safely (with a good enough internet connection). The most important point is to remember to place missiles four blocks back from the edge of the wall, then run and jump and you will make it on top of the missile. Each missile has a different saddle to sit in and here’s where they are:

  • Tomahawk
  • Guardian
  • Juggernaut
  • Shieldbuster

Riding Lightnings

Now these are tricky but they can be ridden. The simplest way is to place a tomahawk either in the wall or ride on top, the place the lightning on the furthest back block and then run and jump off the end of the tomahawk onto the lighting.

Fireballs and how to use them

The most important part of using fireballs is: If you are on your wall with a fireball, place them immediately, they will not despawn and means you can possibly be given another one because you don’t have any in your inventory

Disabling and reactivating Missiles

Missiles can be stopped and sometimes restarted by breaking specific slimeblocks. Breaking slime will usually stop a missile, which can be used to gain a good position in the middle of the map to pile juggernaughts into the enemy base or snipe opponents.

Certain slimeblocks on missiles can be broken to modify the missile in flight, resulting in interesting and sometimes useful effects. A juggernaught can be made to explode by breaking the correct slimeblock.
