PocketUHC (PUHC) is a PVP zestygame, incorporating many features of an Ultra Hardcore Match with a handful of time-saving additions. It is hostable by any Zesty+ Subscriber, and was created to allow players to practise their UHC skills against one another between the monthly UHC matches, hosted by Zedwick. It is also where players can experiment with different PVP strategies, with over a dozen Zedwork players claiming victories.

What is Ultra-Hardcore?

In the Hardcore Minecraft game mode, respawning is turned off - if you die, you lose. In Ultra-Hardcore, your health will also not naturally regenerate. If you lose health, the only way to regain it is with golden apples.
In the Pocket version, there are time-saving features, intended to allow players to get to the end-stage fighting in a quicker time: -If one log block of a tree is broken, the rest will automatically break, allowing for fast collection of log blocks. -If an animal is killed, their meat will drop pre-cooked -When wooden tools/weapons are crafted, they will automatically upgrade to stone. Tools (eg pickaxes) are automatically enchanted -When an iron or gold ore is mined, it will drop the ingot, so smelting is not required

The Match

At the start of a game, players are dropped into a new map, and start with nothing.
Players have to collect and craft their food, tools, weapons and armour.
5 minutes into the match, PVP is turned on.
15 minutes in, the map border begins to shrink. The border starts off 600 blocks away from the centre; it will shrink until it is 50 blocks away in every direction - a final 100x100 block area. Being outside the border will cause continuous player damage. As you can outrun the border, but cannot out-mine it, many players have died to the border from being underground when it overtakes them. The timer on the right-hand side of the screen will show where the border has shrunk to at any given time.
25 minutes in, players are given a 'glow' effect, allowing remaining players to quickly find one another
The game is won by whichever player is the last one left alive.
Any players that die can continue to watch the match in spectator mode - they can still use chat, but their messages will not be visible to active players in the match.

Recommended Equipment

  • A shield - 100% defence against blast protection and arrows, can frustrate most melee attacks.
  • An axe - has a slower attack speed than a sword, but unlike a sword an axe-blow will temporarily disable a shield.
  • A bow/arrows - will need a few dead mobs to get the materials, but allows damage from a distance, assuming you can aim.
  • Golden apple - with natural regeneration off, this is the only way to regain health once you've lost it.
  • A water bucket - use of lava/fire as an offensive weapon is a very popular method - easy way to stop the burn damage.
  • A lava bucket - use of lava/fire as an offensive weapon is a very popular method for a reason. Just don't tip it on yourself!

Memorable PUHC moments

  • Dax2333 and Memery, whilst having an overground fight, kill eachother simultaneously - Memery shoots an arrow as Dax hits him with an axe. Haztec, still making his way up from the underground, ends up winning by default
  • SneakySkeleton killing multiple players via falling anvil
  • Dax killing ABParadigm with a booby-trapped gravel staircase
  • Map generates in near-total desert, most players find no food or tools, but Memery lands by a desert temple, slaughtering everyone atop an armoured horse
  • Map generates in full mooshroom biome, leading players to murder via fisticuffs
