Memery took centre stage on what would be a historic council meeting. With 2 HUGE (omg so huge) topics to discuss, It was clear the “30 minutes per topic” regulation was going to be bent in half more than a magician's assistant.
Topics
Topic 1: How we vote on things (Same ship, different day.) - Zedwick
I could go into granular detail on what specifics were discussed during this topic. For context, the aforementioned discussion took around 40 minutes (Not bad in hindsight).
The main bulk of the discussion hinged around how to deal with absentee votes and whether they should be allowed. And concerns that topics could end up in a loop of being kicked to the forums and never being decided upon.
I will assume that if you are reading these notes you either did not attend the meeting (lucky you) or it is roughly 1 year in the future and this is all being changed again. Either way all you need to know is that the specific wording agreed upon, which will become regulations 31 and 32 are as follows:
31: If a proposal requires a voting decision the council will resolve the wording of the proposal with the scribe to post in the pre-agenda for the next meeting when it will be voted on. Any member may vote on the pre-agenda.
32: If there are any changes to the proposal during the following meeting, and an absent council member has submitted their vote on the pre-agenda, all prior votes are void and the council will resolve the wording of the proposal with the scribe to post in the pre-agenda for the next meeting when it will be voted on.
Wow, how delightfully bureaucratic and loop-hole-less... (that's a word, shut up).
With that done, it’s time to move on. Before you read the next tidy summary of this topic, bear in mind getting this wording correct took over an hour...
Topic 2: Election Changes - ABParadigm
Topic 2: Election Changes
Well, here we are... Judgement day…
To be honest, we already had a lot of the wording nailed down (sort of) thanks to pre-agenda discussion (well done everyone for participating).
For this topic we went through each stage and voted on them individually. For those sections that failed to pass, we re-visited them to change wording and discuss concerns before eventually deciding on the following changes to regulations 4, 5, 6, 17, 20 and 29.
Regulation Number | Old wording | New wording |
---|---|---|
4 | Only 1 Council Member may be elected per meeting. | More than one election can take place in a meeting, with each Candidate being voted on separately. |
5 | Potential nominees must be nominated by at least two council members. They must also hold the highest votes, with a minimum of three, to win the candidacy. | Candidates for membership election must have a majority of "Ayes" to be voted in, with a minimum of 5 total votes cast. Successful candidates are allocated vacant seats in order of most "Aye" votes. |
6 | Only current members of The Council may vote on topics, including elections, unless otherwise allowed by the council | Only current members of The Council may vote on topics unless otherwise allowed by the council. Any Zedling not currently being nominated may vote in elections. Zedlings can vote aye, yay or abstain. |
17 | All nominations and votes to elect a new council member are to be done via private message to the host of the meeting, this aims to prevent peer pressure and create an honest vote. | All votes to elect a new council member are to be done via private message to the host of the meeting, this aims to prevent peer pressure and create an honest vote. |
19 | Players must be at least Zedling in order to be nominated to be a member of the council. | Any Zedling present wishing to join the council can request a vote via the host. |
20 | When electing a new member, should voting result in a tie, the player with the highest meeting attendance for the last four meetings wins. If these are the same then the host must find an additional way to resolve the tie. | In the event of a tie-break situation, relating to elections, the host shall decide the method of the tiebreaker. |
29 | When a host has received at least two nominations for a player to join the council, they must gain that player's permission via private message, prior to naming them at the voting stage. If the player declines or is not present at the time of the meeting to give permission, their nomination is not to be included on the ballot. | [Rescinded] |
I would have written witty jokes for each change, but my heart just isn’t in it today. Stayed tuned next time I scribe for some witty hubris.
Host expectations and responsibilities are also being beefed up to try and make the election process clearer for all parties. You can find all the relevant information HERE.
Announcementz
Wow! What a relief. After all the multiple arguments and discussions and votings and screaming and running away to hide, the familiar “Announcements” came along to soothe everyone's pain.
Server migration: To summarise, this will happen at some point. The reason it has not happened yet is due to all the beefy-er servers were, get this, “sold out” which is a hilarious concept to me. Zedwick has now purchased the necessary hardware and will be migrating things over in the coming weeks!
24th of November, there'll be another Casual Buildathon that will start at 4pm GMT, ending at 9PM GMT. He added: “Don't forget to launch lots of fireworks at Forseth on the 24th of November.” For some reason, I don’t remember why…
Anyway, that’s it! We made it through! Well done team. Looking at the pre-agenda, next meeting is also gearing up for some super fun discussion! Woooooo.
Nominations/Next Meeting
MasterBoy269, He has also volunteered to host the next meeting, let's gooo to bed!
