For this meeting we went down a glorious nether tunnel into an open-air nether arena, beset upon by only two ghasts in the proceedings which was much appreciated. Here's to more meetings in places where phantoms can't get us!
Topics
Hellscape
Hellscape is a town in the nether created by Dax to celebrate 1.16. It is at the end of the southern border tunnel and is surrounded by all the new nether biomes. In just a few short weeks it is already looking incredible, and Dax wanted to pass on his thanks to everyone who has helped out so far. He also gave an open invitation for people to come along and build their own houses, also suggesting a longhall full of mead and cooking meats.
If you want to visit, ride the south border tunnel to the end, then take the blackstone tunnel to the right. Definitely worth a visit, and council certainly agreed as we took a field trip after the meeting.
Custom biomes?
They added custom dimensions as a late feature to 1.16, it is an incomplete feature defined in datapacks, but in effect you can make a dimensions accessible via tp command with various custom properties including world gen. <-That sentence was an amalgamation of everything Dax said, thank you to him for understanding what was happening so I didn't have to
Possibilities for this could include alternate terrain worlds, custom biomes, multiple different biomes, adventure maps, all sorts! That said, it only barely made it to this release and is not necessarily a reliable feature just yet. Zed was happy to discuss it, but would wait to see how Mojang would actually finalise it before it was used on LVS, /if/ it was used on LVS at all.
Several potential suggestions came up for a world for gathering resources, allowing players to more easily attain materials that are trickier to get in the normal overworld, due to the age of the server. 1.13 items were a popular answer (hearts of the sea, coral, etc.). It would also allow for players to stop hunting these biomes down, which in turn pushes new chunks and makes them unable to update in the future. Another suggestion was a 'mining' world where people could gather resources. When Zed asked if there were any objections to having such a world, all who responded said no.
It was a lively discussion but again, this is not a complete feature so this is firmly in 'watch this space' territory. Zed dryly mentioned that ZZ had been half-asking for such a feature for several years, so to have LVS get it first would be a little unkind. Unkind and also hilarious; like laughing when a child falls over
Zednouncements/Next meeting
As LVS didn't explode with the update, ZZ has now also updated to 1.16! Have fun in hell :D
Casual Buildathon - 26th July, 4pm-9pm GMT, theme TBC
There were no nominations and Dax volunteered to host the next meeting. See you all there!
