Helping the community

Postby Thedeester1 » Thu Nov 30, 2017 11:55 pm

Again I have been told that a member of our community isnt doing so well. Because I took the time out to ask.
The person told me he/she was having a hard time on anti depressant meds. I have had this problem and I have had the problem posted before.
Please when people come and start talking about their problems don't ignore them. The Internet and the game and the nice people on our server are sometimes the only places that they feel they can come and actually talk to people. When they open up with " I dont like my new meds" "I dont feel so good" Please talk to them. You do not have to be a counsellor! Sometimes just talking to people who have the same interests as you can take your mind off of your problems! The mind is a funny thing! When you are in a state talking to anyone can help.

I was online when this individual put up this message. To be clear, I was not intentionally ignoring the individual. I was hanging over a lava lake on a one block pillar with ghasts flanking me from three sides. I should point out that although some may not want to talk about such deep subjects, it is also possible that the others may be simply in a compromising situation game wise and simply cannot look at the chat.

I don't want to sound cold-hearted, I did feel bad when I read the message and I wanted to say something however they had gotten offline post-lava-death-time. I just want to be clear that members of this community are superb and thinking it was a case of ignorance versus consolation toward this individual may not be completely accurate, as well as the possibility there may have been private messages behind the public chat.

I wasn't having a pop at anyone.
I just think that in our nice community we can welcome people who don't have anywhere else to turn.
I like to remember that not everyone has a great life outside of Minecraft and sometimes the game and the people they meet there could make a real difference to how they are feeling.
In this world the internet is a powerful thing. People can connect like never before and find friends where they didn't have any IRL.
Human interaction is what makes Minecraft servers great. All ages can play together and share experience..Im not the greatest Minecraft player in the world. Many People younger than I am keep up with the updates and mechanics far better than I do. We all learn from and help each other.
Like I said My original post wasn't taking a POP at anyone. It was more reminder to everyone that we have a great community and sometimes our great community can help people who are not feeling so great.
I have seen that some players seem to want to come and talk more than they want to come and build. That I think is because they feel able to talk to people on this server. I think that is a good thing :)

Thanks for that. I know sometimes when I'm playing Minecraft, it's because I want some time out from deep issues. But I have a great support network in my family, friends, and hcps. It's good to remember that not everyone has that, and we can make a big difference! I will remember that.

I thought I'd share a very helpful resource for people living with depression / anxiety.

https://www.getselfhelp.co.uk/

This site focusses on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, which is designed to help people relate their thoughts to their feelings and actions. I've used these methods myself, and know many practicing councillors who highly recommend this format.

Even if you aren't struggling with mental health issues at the moment, I'd recommend having a read through the resources here. May help you should you face a difficult period in future.
