[LVS] Council Pre-Meeting Agenda - 8th September

Postby Memery » Sat Aug 25, 2018 8:37 pm

Uh oh, it's nearly the end of summer, my knees will have to go into hibernation for another 9 months :(

Anyway, here's a link to the previous meetings notes: https://zedwork.co.uk/wiki/Zedling_Coun ... 2018-08-25

Post those apologies (There won't be any as I'm hosting and you are all invited to my Housewarming party so it's not like you have other plans...) and any other topics down below (like what dish you're bringing and stuff)

Context: I am currently moving house, thanks for asking

In a shocking turn of events, I have a topic: I want to encourage more use of the wiki by council members especially. As a result of this, I will offer 3 diamonds to anyone who creates and publishes a page of their own.

I am happy to help anyone with anything regarding the Wiki as I am something of an expert (So are Spec and Alan so I'm sure they'll offer help too if you can't stand me)

As a couple of simple ideas, write a page about yourself, how long you've been playing and where you live etc.

Also, write a page about your home base and maybe include some pretty screenshots too oooo.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to paying you all for all of you're hard work

I think you meant more use of the wiki?

I think it's a cool idea though, and there are a few users already with pages on themselves:

I would just like to point out that the example crafting table does not fall under "blocks that cannot exist in the world without players" as stated in the previous meeting notes.

Firstly, crafting tables spawn in village librarian houses. Secondly... some people are in the habit of littering worlds with crafting tables they never intend to return to.

I would have pointed it out in person, but I've gotten so flaky I need dandruff shampoo, apparently.

Discussion for the ocean regen script is currently taking place in the Minecraft 1.13 Update News topic, where I've posted a response to your points: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2918&p=11443#p11443

Would just like to ask Memery, does that regard Zurvival people too? If so, like Mell said, I have made a page of my own ;)

I got one for you - an idea that has been floating around my head for ages since they introduced the wood type buttons in the 1.13 update.

Can we place buttons down in the border tunnels, on the packed ice? This will block spawns, but still allow the boats to be as speedy as ever. The eastern one would get acacia, southern would get birch, northern would get oak, and western would get stone buttons. This will keep with the theme of each respective border tunnel, as well as maybe-a-little faster transport than before so you don't have to whack pigmen along the way. I may be a bit slow, admittedly, but I will gladly do this myself if it is approved, though would of course appreciate any help on materials or actual placement of the buttons. Spectatre has done a lovely job tree-chopping some woods for me a few months ago, and I'm sure some of the wood types I won't use as much (the acacia and birch, specifically) would be put to very good use there.

Should also clarify, though I'm sure it is quite obvious, that this would be post-1.13, although we could do the oak and stone buttons now and just have them convert with the server when we update.

You can raise it at the council that you're interested in doing it. I think it is probably something that requires the go ahead by the Zriends. We shall have a chat about it and if it's fine you can crack on!

Edit: I also editted my original reply to this post changing my wording from "forum" to "wiki", thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Edit 2: as for what Ara referred to, I'll change my wording on the notes to make this correct

Reply to my own post, as it seems there is a slight bit of confusion on when we will be placing the buttons if we do have the go-ahead.

We can start with the western (stone buttons) and northern (oak buttons) prior to 1.13. The northern tunnel requiring oak buttons can be placed because the current wooden buttons both have the same texture, and will be converting into oak buttons with the update. The stone buttons of course will be stone before and after.

The southern (birch buttons) and eastern (acacia buttons) would need to be placed after 1.13 because their textures do not currently exist in 1.12.2.

Two thinks on the path buttons:

-The intention being spawnproofing, would we not also want to place buttons on the pathway either side of the rails, else pigmen would spawn there instead

-Apparently 1.13 brings an ice that is appreciably faster to boat across; there was some musing at the time to maybe 'upgrade' the border tunnels to this faster ice. If upgrading the ice is at all likely, and it's agreed the buttoning should happen, to me it would make much more sense to do the former before the latter
