Why New Players Shouldn't get banned for Stealing.

You were walking through the woods, with your hunger quickly depleting because of that stupid skeleton that shot you. You aproach a house, only thinking of your bare survival. You walk in and open a chest, food for days. you take about 6 pieces of chicken, some leather for armor, and a half-broken stone sword. You devour your new chicken, and as you walk out into the wilderness...

BANNED!

There is a fine line between Survival and Stealing. 6 Chicken isn't a lot of food and certainly no reason to get banned. There are new players joining everyday and getting banned for surviving. Players who are more independant want to go way out and find fresh chunks, but they can't because the moderators believe that even taking rotten flesh from a chest is a crime. How about they step into a new players shoes, with absolutly nothing and find a new chunk from spawn.

There is no point in stealing, what do you plan to accomplish from that? Yeah, you took 17 Diamonds. Congrats, you beat the game. What's that? the only food there was a golden apple and you were STARVING? That's SURVIVAL! nobody locked that chest, they haven't been on in over a week, you were starving, and you needed to stay alive! But now there's no point in it because your Banned!

My whole point is, if your going to take something from a chest, it better be survival, not theft. But apperently, the Moderators can't tell the difference.

You are misunderstanding the difference between having an arguably justifiable excuse (because you were hungry), and having not stolen from a player at all.

Starting on a server can be hard, many players will be happy to help out with some free food when asked. It does not give you the right to take from another players' chest, you are not owed any items you feel you need just because it is there. Stealing is stealing, there are no excuses to pretend it is not. Having said that, some actions are more deserving of a permanent ban than others. We have zero tolerance to give our players a sense of security, safe in the knowledge that players who help themselves to others' chests will not be allowed to remain on the server. We will give second chances if we feel the player can understand this, and will be able to contribute positively to the community.

Most players don't mind if players harvest their wheat from their farms, so long as it is all replanted.

Also, not sure I see the necessity for 22 Leathers for your survival. A stone sword is not that difficult to make for yourself, either. At what point would it stop being 'survival' and become stealing?

When you say a Stone Sword isn't hard to make, it is when EVERY tree you see is a part of someone's property. The leather's going to come in handy when you use a crafting bench, but there all locked or impossible to make. The point of this reply is to say that, when you can't break anything, or use anything, what is your only hope for survival? either the people who are so far away you'll starve before you reach them, or taking from an abandoned player's chest.

You were not able to break any trees, nor using any crafting tables as you had lost your build permissions, following stealing from another player. If you had played by the rules, you would have been able to craft your own tools just like any other player.

I will move this to the Banhammer forum, as this is really more about your own ban than the server at this point.

I had about 10 seconds without permissons then I was banned, that wasn't the problem, I had crossed over 1000 blocks and was never able to punch a tree, until I got to the abandoned, and not even finished, house. Yes, your right about this being more personal, but it's also a message to say that it's more then hard to start on a server. I was about to starve and I needed food. If the house didn't have a temporary or permanent claim, in which it didn't, then I would have needed a crafting table, thats what happened okay? If you still want me banned, whatever, but please leave the forum up so others could judge the situation on their grounds and opinion.

BTW you asked when surival becomes stealing. with food, over the amount of about 12 its stealing, with tools, from iron up its stealing, and Potions aren't that hard to make. If they need blocks, make them usless like dirt or cobble. Anyway, I most likely won't reply again, but if I do, you've most likely have managed to make me mad. Anyway, farewell!

Based on this alone, it is pretty clear you wouldn't be able to follow the rules of the server. You are welcome to disagree on what is acceptable, of course. But these are the rules. You should have made yourself familiar with our rules first, obviously Zedwork is not the kind of server you are looking for.

As for not being able to punch a tree, the entire world is not claimed. The players are spread out across our world, there is plenty of space to both build and harvest resources between builds. Perhaps you were only trying to punch trees directly besides houses, it's probably best to head into a forest or just farther away from the building to find unclaimed trees. I am without a doubt that there are plenty of trees near where you spawned which you could have gathered wood from. Plenty of other players have managed to start on Zedwork without stealing.

Not that it's my place to put an opinion but I want to say it anyway,
The definition of stealing,
Theft, the illegal act taking of another person's property without that person's freely-given consent

You don't have the right to judge which items you are allowed to have because you did not earn them or even know the person who did.
iron up its stealing

So it's cool if I take like 5 stacks of coal?

Your bases for stealing is to supposedly survive. So in the real world with real laws your saying if I was starving to death I could walk into someones home and take some of their food and maybe a shovel or something equivalent to what you took. Or maybe hold up a McDonalds for food? No man, That's freakin stupid. You may think that the items you took from this person was worth little value but any value is some value.
I don't think you should be offered another chance on this server, I don't think you should even still be allowed to argue about your wrong doing. You just trying to come up with some BS excuse to get you out of trouble for something you know wasn't right.

Everyone has different rules on what is allowed, You don't have much say in them. In the future I would suggest you read the rules.

I've went server wandering yesterday to see how the servers have changed since i last wandered a year ago... The only half way decent server i could find besides zedwork was a grief free server that Allowed theft so long as you broke nothing... and I witnessed along with giga as a player stole a diamond sword from another because he'd "not locked it so it was asking for it to be taken".
It seems that 95% of the servers i've seen in a two hour search time allow theft / grief or both and actually say in the descriptions that it is actually asked for. It seems our steadily growing community is made up of minecraft's small decent population...

*is sickened*

It is way easier, as an admin, to allow griefing and stealing for anyone who has not claimed their land. Except, if everything looks griefed then it'd turn away new players, a world rife with thievery is not so easily apparent to new players ;)
