Map of Zedwork?

Hello Zed,

Is there any way to get an interactive map of our world on the server? For people like me, scenery around me is always a top priority around my builds, so i need space. So trying to find a large enough space for towns, towers, or other builds is difficult because no matter where you go someone has already been there. So an interactive map would be incredibly advantageous for people like me, and who doesn't like looking at maps! Because there is an ridiculous amount of ocean on the world, knowing what direction to go for land would be the most amazing thing ever, instead of going 10,000 blocks outwards one direction and finding squat-all! I kind of understand that an interactive map could be expensive or it could have server issues or some other reason, but is there any possible way we could have a map?

Maybe after our next server upgrade, at the moment we don't have the resources to spare on the server.

Equally, though, there are privacy concerns where some players may not want their homes revealed to everyone on the map.

i don`t really get the thing that people don`t want to show their homes to others. why do they play on a server?
also their buildings are protected. no one can greif. and if it happens in front of the claim it can be undone.
could someone explain it to me, please!?

I don't mind personally either, but it remains that some people do. This is why some people only whisper their region names to specific people. Think of how much time people spend building complicated gates, enclosing their homes(walls etc) Even with the certain future of our builds being protected and restored, some people still find an overwhelming sense of privacy and seclusion

I also do not see the issue here, don't play on a public server if you want to hide your builds. It would be great to have a map but the only maps know of will show maps of areas already explored, so players would need to have been there before at some point would they not?

*chimes in* Coal is cool for maps I'm making one of the island itself but it looks broken having multiple maps in frames with gaps between them. an interactive map would be awesome and make it easier to get around, but my question is how Big would it be? I don't know how much of the two known lands has been explored and filled but as far as i know they are both gigantic so it'd need to be quite some map. :b

Last time I tried to render a map of the entire world, it filled up the hard-drive and crashed the server (so about 200GB of map data). I couldn't render the entire world on our current hardware.

I'm working on a next best thing, to allow us to see what everyone else is getting up to on the server:



Basically just using the map engine to create images of areas which have recently had a lot of building activity.
