Easiest ways to learn redstone?

Easiest ways to learn redstone?

Postby Salad_in » Mon May 20, 2013 7:02 pm

I was thinking that I should get into learning how to set up redstone circuits and figured it might be a bit tough to find good teachers/tutorials, So I was wondering if anyone on the server who knows how to use redstone could point me in the right direction of learning.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks Mdes, And I'll keep that invitation for your help in mind if I'm having trouble I can't solve on my own.

I agree with checking out SethBling, download some of the maps in question so you can have a look first hand. I am nto the best at redstone(AT ALL) but the trick seems to be understanding the small circuits, and then just combining them.
-learn the basics
-learn some easy circuits
-learn some tricks of the trade

there is a lot to learn, pace yourself :D

The MC wiki also has some good tutorials that are worth checking out. I think they are separated into basic and advanced circuits or something along those lines.

I had thought it would be good to get some simple tutorials up for various minecraft topics like building style/techniques, redstone, farming etc. I don't know if the community would be up for creating such things? I know a lot of players have difficulty with either decorative building, or redstone or creating automated farms etc. Would be great to give them a place to start.

Were you thinking of doing videos on youtube or doing text based tutorials Zedwick? I suppose video would be the preferred medium for the kids of today...

I would love to have some video versions, but I was thinking text based (with images) would be easier. Although, building tutorials in-game could also be grand, especially for redstone. Video, text or in-game would suit different people. Personally I would find all three useful, with text being easier to work through but sometimes you just need to see it being built to really understand.

Maybe we could do a redstone accademy. I did one in a previous MC life. Basically a modern building with open spaces divided into partitioned rooms. Within these rooms there were all the different kinds of circuits (nore latch, Y split, pulse generators ect) The level of complexity increaced with every floor that you went up. for instance the first floor could have basic circuits, the second intermidiate circuirts and the last advanced circuits. It could be a nice project for someone to do. All the circuits would be interactive in order to show what they did. This would mean building the building in non claimed land maybe?

Anyway you guys get the idea...maybe we could do weekly/monthly redstone tutorials/classes were students would come to the accademy to learn and build their own circuits. there could be an experimental floor where new circuits could be displayed and built by the students also.

Someone (or some people) would have to oversee the classes and to respond to questions. preferably someone well versed in the red arts.

Good idea anyone?

sounds like a great idea. You can always use /accesstrust public to give everyone access to buttons and leavers for controlling the circuits. I don't think leaving them unclaimed would be a good idea, maybe small subivision to allow access to place redstone in single block spaces could work?
