Lag, 1.7 and a nether reset.

Disabling the structures will:

- Disable generating new structures in all worlds.

- Disable saving the location of structures with the world to allow them to remain active after updating to 1.7, thus meaning they may not continue spawning wither skellies in nether fortresses after the update (thogh any new fortress generated in1.7 will)

I never visit the nether (like EVER) so as far as i'm concerned, you could fill it with all the creepers and skellies of the overworld and i'd not notice.
That being said, giga on the other hand frequents the nether regularly and i've heard him talking about the lack of new land so i guess a wipe would be good?

My only concern is the horse highway, it gets used by many players (or seems to at least) and will need to be recreated with the new nether. If people are willing to set it up again though, it shouldn't be hard to remake ^_^

(( Off topic, i've been distracted by pokemon recently, as well as school starting last week, so i've not been on the server as much as before but wil try set it up on my school comp so i can visit during my lunch break. I'm sure ye've all been relaxed without me looking over ye'r shoulders, but that time of peace will end soon~ >:) The Bee's coming back!!))

You have my vote too for a nether wipe.

I would be happy to lend a hand rebuilding the horse highway if needed.

Am also cheered by the prospect of being able to mine some nether quartz for myself (and who knows, maybe get my hands on some blaze rods too!). Being a latecomer to Zedwork all the quartz appeared to have disappeared by the time i got round to visiting the nether - at least within reasonable distance of inhabited areas!

This means no villages, temples, witch huts in the overworld too. I am unsure if this counts for dungeons and abandoned mineshafts, thought I think it does not. I look at the wipe as an investment in the future of Zedwork. The people I know who have spent the most time there building are generally for it so far.

Also: Can't wait for Goldy to come home to us! ^_^

One short question since this might be related, but will this nether wipe also fix world/world save lag or world/end save lag? I don't know if any of you have experienced this as well but those two saves also cause me to lag as well, will this also help that lag?

Oh, no, Goldy is coming back, I need to stop relaxing and hide all my mischievousness  .

I've experienced this Sok, and as far as I know Zed is aware. You are referring to the long long long world saves right? During which time of course nothing takes place in game. bleh

We are proposing to disable saving structure data with the world saves, which is the reason they are taking much longer than they used to. As far as I see it, this would most affect the nether, as current nether fortresses would stop spawning wither skellies. The answer to that is to wipe the nether, not save structure data in the end or the world. This would leave some witch huts not spawning witches in the overworld, but that should be it.

It will effect all fortress only mobs then I assume. I believe that blazes, and a few other things are like that. Will this effect dungeons and the associated spawners in overworld or nether regions? I guess I am just confused. Will these things continue to generate as we explore? From what I gather yes, just the associated code for mobs to spawn will change. Does this also mean that these structure only spawned mobs can spawn outside of the regions? So witches can spawn in seemingly random areas?

Any mobs which comes from a spawner block will not be affected by this, nor will silverfish (as they are stored in a silverfish block, which is stored in the world as a block id). I am not sure how it would affect things post 1.7. I believe that we would not have 'invisible' witch huts appear where they would have generated in 1.7, but I am not sure on that. New witches should not spawn anywhere but 1.7 witch huts (and maybe some pre-1.7 huts, as save which have already saved structure data may remain after the structures have been disabled)
