Do you have an idea on how to improve the server? Or have a brilliant idea for an event? Or any other requests? This is the place to voice them.

New nether Hub

Ok, with 1.7 fast approaching and hopefully our Nether will be reset "sweeeeet" We are now going to have to re-build a Nether hub. So the questions we need to answer is

1. Where shall the hub be linked to (Which region), since 0,0 in the over world is never used?

2. What kind of design shall we go with?

3. What kind of transport shall be used?

I have some ideas on what the main design of the hub should be, but I would like to hear what you guys what to see. I offer my services as builder for the hub, but would like some people to help out and help with the design.

my idea, it be based out of city region. That will require guardian permission obviously though. With that being said, there are many many ideas for designs. Because there will be many more tunnels than a traditional hub in multiplayer, I suggest a branch approach. By this I mean we have 10 tunnels stretching a few thousand blocks or something. Then individuals can add tunnels to their specific regions. Thoughts?

Hmm...I will suggest my idea, my idea is of making many hubs (this will be done by players). I feel like this would be a much more efficient way of traveling, and by efficient I mean fast, the problem I find with only one nether hub, is that a portal could be lets say 100 blocks away, but because there is only 1 hub, that person would have to go to the hub and then to the respecting tunnel for the region, this will take way much longer than if that region had a hub. I dont know if you guys actually meant this, sorry if you did, this is more of a questions, rather than statement.

Hopefully this will help understand.

I dont think people will use it, when chester and I finished the current one only 4 people had tunnels. :/

Unfortunately, I agree, we are so spread out a central hub doesn't really work.

I think a more organized version of the highway would function better then a hub as it covers more of a distance and there is no supposed central location to route through.

It would work well if the server had a static spawn, but we don't and everyone is far too spread apart to justify a central hub for everything to connect to.

I suppose with the region warp points or what ever people call them a nether hub system is a bit redundant, but I would like to implement some kind of transport system in the ceiling of the nether. With a central point, but also have it branch out and spread like a web, like Sokonit said.

I guess the next thing to do is get all the cords for the regions, so I can make a rough map. Ahead of the nether reset. I can get the major regions by visiting them, but for anyone in regions with no name. If people could add them to their posts. I can include them in the map.

yeah there is no "need" for one by any means. I like sok's idea of many hubs though. If we go with with that maybe just color coordinate them? yello hub is at 10k,70,5k and the like.

Hey,

I made a map of zedwork with some regions. This is a part of the map:

I think we should make the horse highway in an efficient way and only build tunnels for existing regions. As you can see a lot of regions are on one line (the x-axis is the vertical axis).
Hylindar also has been busy making a map so we could combine them and then decide how to make the horse highway.

I think straight lines work the best. Diagonal lines are harder to construct.
