Suggestions for Website

Postby Wolfsong92 » Mon Apr 28, 2014 7:34 am

Hello,

I have a couple suggestions for the website. The first involves the voting section. I am finding it a lot more tedious to vote, largely from having to go back and forth between this website and the voting ones. Before, I could just right click and open in a new tab, vote, then exit that voting website without ever having to leave the Zedwork website. However, when I try to do it now, the buttons do not let you navigate through a right click, and clicking on a button forces you to leave this website. My suggestion would be to either set up the buttons so that you can also navigate by right-clicking, or when clicked, to have it open into a new tab or window.

Another issue, the navigation buttons for the forum and help pages, and the rest of the site switch places, so this makes navigating a little confusing. Personally, I prefer the navigational layout on the forum and help pages. In any case, my suggestion would be to keep the navigation the same throughout the whole site.

Anyways, that's my two cents. Keep up the great work! :)

PS. Have you ever considered adding a favicon for your site?

Both very valid points.

I will make the voting buttons open in a new window, and will look at supporting right clicking a little later.

The navigation buttons are a slight laziness on my part in the new design, and will likely be switched back. The forum has not been updated to the new site design (which is now usable on both mobile and desktop browsers), which is why it is a little different.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

Thank you very much! I personally am finding it a lot easier to vote now.

I tested out the site on my tablet and ipod, and I must say, on the tablet it looks great. It is well laid out, and easy to navigate.
There are some small issues when viewed on smaller screens however, at least from what I can see. Some items sticking outside of the main area (part of the navigation buttons, and the grey donate bar on the donate page).

Anyways, nicely done. Keep up the great work! :D

Ah. It's not thoroughly tested, seemed to work fine on my iPad and should have theoretically worked fine no matter the width of the screen. Could you send some screenshots of how it looks, along with info on what device/browser versions you are using? I know it doesn't degrade well at all on older browsers, though. The site is built on modern CSS3, stuff which only became supported within the last few years. I need to sort out support for the older browsers.

Here is a link to some of the screenshots from my ipod touch. The browser I am using on it is Safari.
I have also tested it on my Mac using Chrome, by making the browser window very narrow like the ipod screen, and it had very similar results as what shows on the ipod. Also tested on a PC using Firefox and doing the same thing. Again, the same results.

All of these browsers should support CSS3 just fine.

From my testing, the site seems to work fine with the large(desktop?) and medium(tablet?) versions, and only has some slight issues when it comes to the smaller(ipod, smartphone?) version.

I hope I am making sense, and that this information is of some use to you.

Anyways, you are doing a nice job, and I wish you luck! :)

Oh, well that's not how I expected it to break at all.

Thanks, I'll try to fix that at the same time as I add support for older browsers.
