Elytra distribution

Elytra distribution

Postby LadyBountiful » Sun Aug 14, 2016 8:52 am

As discussed at the council meeting yesterday, we have a surfeit of elytras at the moment that need distribution, as the End has been left with very few.

The council thought of a number of ways of doing this:

1. Let the dragon drop an elytra when it is killed.
Thought to be too limiting.

2. Have an LB survival build-off.
This is thought to favour the more able members of the community, and is a lot of work to set up.

3. Have a Creative build-off.
This is thought to favour the more able members of the community, but is less work to set up.

4. Have a scavenger hunt
Most council members thought that this was a good idea, run over a set period of time, ie 2 weeks, and would be available for all zedlings. However, I think we would need to have several lists, to prevent collusion amongst the participants.

5. Have a hunt with cryptic clues
This was also thought to be a good idea, but again we would need several lists to prevent collusion.

6. Let Zriends distribute them
The Zriends could be allowed to nominate other players who have been particularly helpful on project. This might put the Zriends under pressure, but might be a way for some players to achieve an elytra who might not in any of the above.

My thoughts are that whatever we do, it is for zedlings only.
Once a player has won an elytra they may not participate again for an elytra for a set period of time - say a month.

Please post any thoughts you may have here, and a decision will be made at the next meeting.

Thanks

Sounds like a lot of good ideas there. Another suggestion, which I'm not even sure I support myself but I want it out there anyway, is to give a Elytra to every player who donates to Zedwork. It might be to easy to get a hold of then, but it would work as an incentive for players to donate.

That said I feel it could be an insult to other players who can't afford to donate (or don't want to) and such it should come with another mean to get it.

Whilst I would love to reward players who support the server and keep it running every month, that would be what is called "pay to win". I've avoided pay to win since I started running Zedwork, but Mojang have more recently added terms to their EULA stating that this is not allowed.

Perfect. That settles it. As I said I'm not sure it would be a good idea to begin with and that pretty much confirms it isn't one.

I favor just resetting the end. i suspect few of those who have already claimed elytras went to the trouble to mark the coords, but even if they did there's no guarantee they would want to go to the effort to get another one.

Even in the event of multiple future resets I don't see known elytra coords as a problem. Those who will go to the effort should have the reward. If there comes to be a small group of elytra collectors, that should just drive the prices down to reasonable levels. And, use of known coords is going to be a game of timing anyway. A random explorer might stumble upon the elytra and claim it before the person who has noted the coords makes the attempt.

But, it's all math and computers to me. What do I know.
