Zedkins Seconds from the 29th April 2017

Present Zedkins member:
  • Zedwick

  • the1Shaw
  • dogzack123

Excused Zedkins member:
-

Absent Zedkins members:
  • chester1525
  • LalaRichter
  • colossux
  • Jasmyn01

Other present Zedlings:
Rickard, Mellori

LalaRichter got her 4th strike and is off the council. She may be voted back in if she returns.

After a silent staring contest between me and Zedwick, we slowly began the meeting after Shaw came back from a hopefully tasty dinner and dogzack coming late, but just in time.

Zedkins Date

Zedkins will return to a 2 week rhythm. The vote was unanimous. The new schedule will encourage more action (Zedwick) and 4 weeks seemed to slow us down (Dogz).
This will go into effect for the next meeting.

Zen Update

HERE to the official Zen Trello Board: https://trello.com/b/L4KeoST9/zen

The Public Mining area under y=16 has been expanded and a slime chunk has been prepared by Dogz to be farmed.

We've further discussed some things that are still to-do:

  • Building the Community Farm Building
  • Building More "example builds" that then may be sold for a bit iron
  • creating a Town ledger to keep track of inhabitants
  • Getting colossux to abandon his claims so we can build a building for the world map with library and museum

Strikes
After discussing that Lala is off the council, I offically remarked that people need to keep track of their own strikes to be written off. You'll loose one after attending 2 meetings.

Zed's News

After most of the meeting was over, Zedwick started to talk about the real interesting stuff. Going well into overtime on the meeting, he explained and we discussed about an upcoming change on Zurvival.

The current Region Post system will be replaced with a new one.

Details are of course subject to change, but the main idea is to change from a text and region named basis to something you'd more likely find in an open-world single player game.

Exploration is one of the key features in the new system, as well as reducing the use of commands and using custom, in-game graphic interfaces instead.

You'll be able to create "maps" from the region you are in. Those maps will be used to mark the region in your personal Ledger as well as being able to share them one on one or hang them on a wall for everyone to mark the region in their ledger.
The Ledger will be the actual interface and lists all the regions you have "discovered". This will include Wilderness regions.
Both region systems will overlap for a time of transition.

The tp-ing sound and animation of the current system will probably be adapted. Quiet a few people dislike the explosion sound. The "fall protection exploit" will be fixed soon, too, according to Zedwick.

Upcoming Events

Zedwick also announced the next Zedwork UHC to be starting on 14th May at 6pm BST as well as the next Build off on the 28th May at 4pm BST. More information as well as the topic will be announced later.

Next Zedkins Meeting will be in 2 weeks on the 13th May 8pm BST

This is unlikely, as it would remove the requirement for exploration; you currently do not even need to know the name of a region to be able to find the name and travel there. Would make it all to easy to map out all the named regions in a day.

The two plugins would also likely interfere with each other, as the new plugin would be handling generating the region posts, as would the old. I can imagine them creating huge towers of region posts as they battle for dominance.

The transition to the new system may be awkward for our current Zedlings, but will ultimately give you easier access to more of the world; I think it will be worth it in the end :)

Sounds like we should start marking down the coordinates of all know region posts :x

~~~
Jokes aside, I'm really looking forward to the changes; the gui sounds especially awesome!
Unfortunately, the completionist in me would not be appeased until I had visited all the region posts, so I'm looking forward to a sleepless week when this first comes around! \o/
Sounds like I need to make that even worse better for you by turning that into an achievement advancement! ^_^
Oh, okay, I must have misunderstood that then.
....
Wow, that would be pretty bad for me and my list of like 40 regions that I have noted down... :cry:
Would the current home region at least stay? Because it seems likely that that would get reset then.
And I guess /home will still be there?
But yeah, I think I'm gonna need to do a spreadsheet of the coords of regions I currently use most then. If I prioritize my personally used places, that should be doable. If very inconvenient.
Or maybe... could there be a way for people to get a few "blank maps" at the start, where you can put in the name of an already named region (or coordinates of them)? So you could add them to your ledger without going there first?
That would help established players a lot in transitioning to the new system without needing to spend hours traveling or never finding back to one's home or build project because one forgot to write down the coordinates... (which i am afraid of, tbh.)
EDIT: Okay, fair enough, i just remembered the map project on the forum which should list most named regions
This is still very early into the project, so there really isn't any concrete details. Part of why I was hesitant to go into any detail when asking for suggestions on a possible change. I know this is important to all of you that we get it right.
I will look at importing data from the current plugin. I am planning to add the region new players join at to their list of known regions as soon as they join, so it would definitely be reasonable to import existing players' current /homeregion to be in your list of known regions from the start once we switch over. I will give you a more concrete answer on this once I have looked at the technical aspect of importing that data.
I have no current plans to change how /home works.
Regions
Postby Mellorian » Sun Apr 30, 2017 8:20 pm
I'm making a list of all the current named regions with coordinates. Am I allowed to post that to the forums?
Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, I thought it was relevant.
I'm really sorry, Mellori. I have privacy concerns with making a list of coordinates to player's bases public here on the forums. Please don't post them.
