[LVS] Council Meeting Pre-agenda (29th July 2017)

Topic: WARP X ELECTION DATE

So, uh...

I forgot to actually include, neither did the previous meeting (to my knowledge) discuss the date we are actually going to have the official election date for Warp X. The topic does not include a date either.

So I propose either of these 2 methods of going about it...

1. We postpone until next meeting

2. Do a vote/poll on the forums so everyone can vote.

Or if anyone has a better idea we can go forward with that at the time. I just want to discuss this topic, and get it all cleared up.

I think the biggest problem that doing a vote at a meeting poses is the number of people who attend. Some weeks we can get 4-5 people, then the next week get 8-9. Which in my opinion would be horribly unfair to everyone involved in wanting to be the mayor of Warp X, I believe a poll on the forums running for roughly 2 Weeks would be enough, Mainly the poll starting after a meeting and then closing before the next. While yes there are a few people who cannot access the forums, I believe it'll still be a larger number than a meeting.

Also my only concern with a poll on the forums is that a candidate could vote for themselves, not sure if people would be against that, or if it should be allowed considering obviously that person would want themselves as mayor.

I agree with the forums-vote idea that was proposed. I know there are some council members (including myself) that have a tight schedule they run and have a good chance of not attending the meeting, and doing a forums poll would allow the ability for everyone who would vote to do so at their own pace.

I'm not sure how the votes would be input, whether by PM or post-reply, but I do agree this is certainly a more beneficial idea and fairer to both the candidates and voters.

The forums have a polling function, it can be set up when creating a new topic.

I like the forum idea. That way it doesn't clash with anyone's schedules.

I thought it was stated in the last meeting that candidates had until the July 29 meeting to declare themselves, and that the election itself would be held aug 12

Having said that, assuming voting was open to those outside the council then I'm not opposed to the poll.

However, I do believe that after the forest hills election debacle it was decided that only council members could vote.

Which puts us back to the attendance issue.... such circular things is this stuff.

If I remember correctly, the Forest Hills Mayor vote was made and decided in the council meetings. So was the Co-mayor decision, although that never had a vote. As far as I know, we never had a mayor election based on polls off the entire server.
Then again, I'm not sure it should be decided that way. It was a lot of responsibility being a Mayor and even just maintaining a warp (and not improving it) took most of my time. So the person elected should be elected by people who would take the vote seriously. That said, It's something that affects all of the server and so the entire server might have something to say in the matter.

I'm rambling.. my point is that the decision of who becomes Mayor shouldn't be made based on popularity, it should be made based on who would be best suited to become Mayor.
