[LVS] Forest Hills ideas

Postby Forseth » Sun Apr 24, 2016 6:50 am

Hey everyone.

As many of you know, some of Forest Hills areas could use a rework. Ive heard it from multiple sources and since its hard for me to see and know it all, I need your help.

If any of you have ideas on how to improve Forest Hills, please post a reply here with suggestions (or send me a PM). I'm open for ideas and I will appoint a Co-mayor soon to help me with the work. The ideas can be as small or as big as you want and the more the better. Of course, I cant implement them all, but I will give them a look over.

Thanks!
May the Forseth be with you

hey here is my analisise of the problems of forest hills.

first problems

-the lack of a clear city center
-lack of a market
-lack of good plots near the warp
-no competitions or activetis to enjoy
-lack of direction (might be part of my preveuse points)

so i propose we clear a area in yellow on the map to make room for a center where once in the 2 weeks we could hold a market broken up after warts or build of the point is the center must be used and change form time to time.
second we trash the old comunity center blu and build a new one thats larger and whould hold a map , permanant market , a place to leave reqeusts for the mayor , municpal storage , comunity farms , a bank , anthing else that might be usefull.
Then i propose to create new plots in the north rufly the purpal area on the greass field past the mounten its a nice green area that needs to be finished for poeple to setel there.
Create direction poles and decoration it makes the city feel alive.
Roads to outher towns now i have no idee how much work this is but it whould be cool and might help more poeple come to the city.
also make a few plases to have fun ie spleef arena or a jumping corese or somting like that.
in general i wane make the point that forest hills is more a colection of houses then a town it needs people and activety.
i hope this makes some sents and i voleteer to help as i hope outhers do

[LVS] Forest Hills! JamieMc1664's Idea Page!

Postby Jams__ » Sat Apr 30, 2016 4:16 pm

Hello,

JamieMc1664's List of Changes for FH's!

- Make a town center concluding with a vending machine, a few shops and is accepting suggestions.

- Districts: Mark out the actual boundaries of Forest Hills!

- Create a town build team for town builds!

- Start a small town council to help with decisions!

- Create a welcome center with rules, warp info, server info and all other things incase we ever become a new player warp again!

- Clear unused builds!

- Make strict themes for building within 30-40 blocks of the warp!

- As we all know you can build anywhere so have coords of large clear areas at spawn!

- Introduce a new town rank | Secutary | In-charge of maintaining player suggestions, maintaining the town market + more!

- Create a fully functional server market!

- Develop the nether hub!

- More events! (Build Off's, Minigame Place + more)

- Make a better infrastructure of how the warp runs!

- Work on a new spawn area for forest hills! (If Zed will move it)

- Introduce a new mayor stash and removed builds area!

- Bring in community feed back!

Possible Juridstiction plan: (See inside red box!)

Great! I appreciate the ideas. Some of which I think would work well within the Forest Hills and some that I don't think would work well.

Some that don't work right now:
- Nether Hub: The Netherhub is made and maintained by Zriends and thus cannot be change by me. If there is a wish for improved Netherhub, I can bring it up with one of the trusted ones. If so, please point out what you think should be changed and why.
- New town rank - Secretary: Currently there aren't much suggestions on how to improve Forest Hills (with the exception of you. Thanks!), those that have suggestions usually bring them up with me ingame or with one of the zriends or Zedwick/LadyBountiful. Maybe, if the need arises, it would be wise, but for now I don't think it would make any difference.
- Strict theme for buildings within X block of warp: I think that would work well if you started a new warp with a specific theme set in mind. For Forest Hills, not only would you need permission from the various people who live within that radius but also you might alienate players that don't think or feel like you do. Correct me If I'm wrong here people.
-Town council: Discussing is important. Its the only way to learn and broaden your perspective. But an actual council sounds a bit to much. Id love to discuss ideas with you but having everyone come together as an official council seems almost theatrical. Not to mention the fact that it would, in a way, rival the server council. Something I really don't want.

Some that seems good:
- Town build team: Sounds great. If there are a bunch of players that want to help build something, I think it sounds good.
- Clear city center: I agree that the center of the village seems a bit tight and crowded. Most players entering the warp never sees the rule board. So recreating the warp area into a brand new city center seems like a great idea. We just have to agree on what needs to be there.
- Cords of clear areas at spawn: I think this is a somewhat good idea. The idea has always been that one should just follow the roads and they would get into open areas. But signs of where open areas are, is a good idea.
- More events!: Love it! Just need to organize it somehow
-Bring in community feedback: I agree that I need all the feedback there is. If anyone has any ideas on how to improve Forest Hills or has any thoughts on the things brought up here, make sure you are heard.
-Creating new plots in the purple area: There are lots of small areas like these that could be used by players. Problem usually are one of the following: Location. The location isn't adequate for the player, they feel they want bigger/flatter/closer/further away etc. Also, finding it on their own usually is a problem. I think the putting down the work for getting these areas player ready seems like a great Idea, but we also need to make sure that the players find their way there.
-Direction poles and decorations: I like it! I also would love if it had street lights instead of torches everywhere. Feel free to give me design suggestions.
-Roads to other towns: I think that if there is another city close to the Forest Hills, Its a good idea. Otherwise it seems like a lot of work for no payoff. However, roads are a thing that I have been trying to fix for the town. It needs more roads going "out" of Forest Hills. To many ends up in dead ends or a mountain. Dig tunnels, build bridges etc. is whats needed.

Some that needs clarifying:
- Districts: Although I like having things organized, I don't understand what you mean? Do you suggest a border around FH or do you want to the different areas to have different name codes? Either way, its hard to do that since the village is expanding every so often and it wasn't built for being in districts. Forest Hills was build around a single point, and then expanded in circles (Block circles) around that point. Whenever there was hindering terrain, it was either removed or built around.
- Clear unused builds: Yes and no. This is one of the harder topics. I think that buildings that get started by new players and left unfinished (that can't even be called a building) should be removed, after the proper two weeks warning. However, as to finished buildings left by players that are no longer being used I'm just not sure if its a good idea. See the city is filled with buildings that no longer are being used. Either because the player moved on to another place or because the player is no longer playing on the server. And If we were to remove all those buildings, we would be left with a city without buildings. Also, where does one draw the line? If a player hasn't been on for a year? 6 month? 3 month? Well, Im not sure. And that's why it hasn't happened yet.
- Server market: The server already has a market. Its easy access in spawn. However, If people feel like setting up shops in Forest Hills, I see no reason why not. However it might need some clarification. Do you mean a building for nothing but setting up shops or?
- better infrastructure on how the warp runs: Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean here? Feel free to clarify
- Work on a new spawn area for Forest Hills (If Zed will move it): Although I like the idea of a new city center, I'm not sure where you think it should be moved? Also If its moved far enough, one might as well start a new warp?
- A new Community center/town hall: Seems like a good idea but I think it needs to be discussed further what should go in there. Things like market, farm and storage aren't necessary and I feel they would just be left there, gathering dust.
- Spleef Arena or jumping coarse: Spleef is being made by Zedwick for donating players to host at will. So that seems unnecessary. Jumping coarse or parkour areas sounds fine, but it needs to be well executed or it will just be blocks floating through the air.

Lastly, I wanna thank you two for helping me with this. Send me more suggestions and If you think I'm wrong in any of the above points, please say so. I'm not perfect and I'm not always right.

Thank you tim, for providing that map image. I tried to make one but was unsuccessful

I agree with the idea of a town center, but let's pull the edge of your purple box up and left, so that it will include the current portal hut and also the little fort like structure right in front of amir's house. Let's not completely level the area, but allow it to be a park like area, removing hard structures such as the odd little storage house and ideally Roburky's house (if possible).

Let's put a fence around the town center two or three blocks high, perhaps with iron bars on some kind of base, leaving only two or three openings. One opening should be above/at the little fort structure (in the near future we can expect that to lead to a rail to a neighboring town), one going toward the mayor's office (on tim's map, inside the blue box the building with the green arrow), and perhaps one on each of the other two sides.

I would like to see the warp hut moved into this park area, so it's not in the middle of the road, the diagonal opposite corner of the town center might be a good spot. Between the fort and the big tree perhaps. A little terraforming and maybe some dirt paths would carry visitors from the portal to the warp, passing the rules and notices posted at the little fort like structure, and on toward the Mayor's office. I don't think we should tear down the mayor's office as it was built by our previous mayor, but a bit of a facade lift might still be nice.

I love the idea of lights and road signs, but myself haven't any vision of what would be the trademark style to use in Forest Hills. I think that if we could lower the roads to bottom half slabs, or put some other curb like edges on the roads it would add to the appeal.

Forest Hills is no longer a white warp, so we do not really need to set the town up for people new to LVS. I agree with Forseth here; most services are provided at Spawn, and the other public farms around. Why build things to attract new players who probably won't visit until they've already established themselves somewhere else? It's too late for that. What can we do for Zedlings? (I know it sounds cold)

Good eye tim finding that purple area. I hadn't found any build areas yet, myself.

Hello, just my opinion here but:
The nether hub was built and designed by myself and DannyC96. We are happy to expand it if that is what you wish but the general design wont be changed.
Seeing as the warp will become much less active now it is Zedling only there will be a lot less demand for nether tunnels. I don't think an expansion is necessary but we are not mayors any more.
The are at the top of the nether hub called "community area watch this space" is still being developed (even if it is a bit slow) and once completed will be a huge server wide attraction. In fact i'm thinking of roping in the other Zriend's to help.

That's all, if you need anything just ask :)
Without trousers, you can enjoy life a lot more. Wearing a "thong" is just a comfort thing ...

Thanks for your input Aravero!

I think that sounds like a great Idea. I don't completely understand your vision of how it will look, but I think it will look good. I suggest you, Tim and Jamie get together and discuss how to do this (If you want). Also, If any other players have ideas and are willing to give a hand, let me know.

Keep it up guys!

(Also thanks to Memery for giving that bit of information. I didn't know that and now I do.)
