Mayor

From Zedwiki

Mayors are those who run towns on LVS. A mayors role includes town planning, making infrastructure, tidying the town and much more.

Warp Town Mayors

Each active Warp Town has a mayor, appointed by the Zedling Council. Co mayors can be appointed by a mayor and the decision approved or blocked by the council at the next meeting.
The mayor is tasked with looking after the warp, fielding player queries and upholding the warp rules. They may also be involved in larger aspects such as town planning and general infrastructure. If a mayor becomes inactive, the council may remove them from the position, allowing another player to run for the position.
The current system for choosing new Warp Mayors was agreed on council meeting 2017-07-29 [1]), this is summarised by regulation 13 but explained in full below:

  • A forum post is made allowing people to express their interest in running for mayor of a Council warp town.
  • The following meeting, the Council will vote to endorse candidates to run for mayor from the list of interested parties. A candidate must receive two endorsements from council members to be allowed to stand in the public vote. If the candidate is on the council, they cannot endorse themselves. Council members are not required to endorse any interested party. If a candidate has received two endorsements from council members, they cannot be endorsed further. The meeting host must ask each council member in-turn to message them privately with their endorsement, council members are reminded they do not have to endorse anyone. This is to prevent spam voting and confusion over endorsements. If the meeting host is a potential candidate, another impartial party must instead collect the endorsement votes.
  • Once the candidates have been endorsed, the mayoral election will begin. A forum poll will be set up, unless only 1 candidate is in the running, in which there is no need. This allows forum users to vote for the mayor they want to elect. Any Zedling, Zesty or Zriend can vote. The candidate with the most votes will be officially appointed at the next council meeting.

Inactive Warps

Warp areas that are removed from the spawn warps are dubbed 'inactive'. When these inactive warps become mayor-less, a caretaker can be assigned to watch over the warps and address any issues that residents of those warps may have.

Mayors Elsewhere

Other player-generated towns can also have self-appointed mayors, and do not fall under council purview. In this way anybody may have a go at running a town with people moving in and building. They do not have warps at spawn, and are generally accessed through the nether hub. These towns can occasionally grow very large, like in the examples of Mushroom Island or Mare.
